DreamHack Anaheim 2020: The concluding remarks on the American festival

The event in the American town of Anaheim has marked the second stop of the DreamHack festival series. We will summarize its esports part today by telling you which tournaments in Anaheim have turned out to be the most popular.

DreamHack Anaheim 2020 has featured more than 10 different competitions. More so, the American festival has started the esports life of the new version of the legendary competitive game, WarCraft 3 Reforged. Additionally, the fans could also spectate the championships for the new titles of the industry (such as the MTG: Arena).

The Fortnite tournament was the most popular one, featuring 145 thousand peak viewers – which is a sizable result for the modern Fortnite scene. After all, the tournaments which lack multi-million prize pools tend to gather far fewer viewers, with the peak viewers mark only rarely exceeding that of 100 thousand viewers.

The CS:GO championship became the second most popular one, and while we cannot say that its results were record-breaking, by its own standards it is extremely successful. Despite the shortage of the participants from the famous tags, the peak viewers mark of this DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020 has reached 136 thousand viewers.

The event has reached such indicators thanks to the Brazilian audience. It was attracted by the simultaneous performance of the two teams of this region (MiBR and Furia) which ended up causing such a peak; namely it was reached at the ENCE vs MiBR match during the second day of the group stage.

DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019 was the last championship from this organizer to exceed the mark of 100 thousand viewers. Still, there is a large gap between the two when it comes to pretty much every aspect (amount of participants, prize, location, and others). On the other side, the indicators of the American stop are certainly surprising, showing us that the second-tier team competitions are also capable of attracting large audiences.

Closing the festival's top 3 was the WC3 Reforged championship. The reimagined legend of the RTS genre has attracted a total of 25 thousand peak viewers. This is the game's first tournament with the developer's support: earlier Blizzard has signed a partnership under which the esports life of both Warcraft and Starcraft would be now managed by two tournament organizers: ESL and DreamHack.

As usual, these festivals also host sets of events with a number of fighting genre representatives. So far, DreamHack Anaheim 2020, has featured SSB, SFV and Tekken championships, with the Super Smash Bros. had the most viewers out of the three.

The fighting game from Nintendo has gathered 3.8 thousand peak viewers, exceeding the respective indicator of the closest rival by 59%. However, when compared to the relatively popular championships, the results of three fighting game competitions are more or less at the same level.

The Rocket League's DreamHack Anaheim 2020: Boost Cup had the lowest peak viewers indicator, but the lowest average viewers indicator goes to the Super Smash Bros. competition instead.

The Halo and MTG: Arena competitions were not that much better off, with the shooter and the CCG attracting 4,612 and 7,286 peak viewers respectively. We should remind you that DreamHack Magic Arena Open 2020 allowed the participation of every visitor of the festival, with the winner being awarded with a direct invitation to the Mythic Invitational.
