Mobile Legends Professional League is one of the most important events for ML: BB. The best teams of Southeast Asia gather to compete, and the number of spectators is only growing every season.

First of all, let's talk about the format of the tournament. The teams met at the MPL Arena in Jakarta but without spectators. As for the prize money, 300 thousand dollars were at stake.
The tournament itself began in February and lasted three months. Usually, esports events cause the most interest at the end of the competition, but this is not the case for the MPL. In the group stage, Season 7 set a new peak record of 1.4 million viewers during the match between RRQ and EVOS Legends.
Obviously, even more viewers came to watch the final - 1.8 million at the peak of the broadcast of the last league match between EVOS Legends and Bigetron Alpha. This means a new record for the region and the professional league. The seventh season of the Indonesian League is the second most watched event in the history of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. It failed to overtake only the M2 World Championship, which attracted 3 million spectators.
In terms of platforms, MPL Indonesia's seventh season on YouTube was the most watched with 999K Peak Viewers. In second place is the Asian platform NimoTV - 854K people. The rest of the viewers preferred Facebook. The competition isn’t streaming on Twitch because mobile esports is not very interesting to viewers on this platform.
In addition to the Indonesian broadcasts, the competition could be watched with an English cast - 28K viewers at its peak.
Most Popular MPL ID Season 7 Teams
The winners of the tournament became the most popular team of the region - EVOS Legends. They were watched by 590K spectators on average. The second place belongs to RRQ - one of the most famous teams in Indonesia - 537K spectators watched them despite being eliminated at the very beginning of playoffs. In addition, three matches with RRQ made it to the top 5 most played matches of the tournament.
Bigetron Alpha finalists took only third place in the top - 421K viewers on average.
You can see how the league only improves its results every season. Compared to the sixth season, Hours Watched increased by 87%. In addition, the number of viewers on average also increased by 96%. It's scary to imagine what indicators will be in the next season.
The results of MDL Season 3
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League is a semi-professional ML:BB league which was in its third season already. Our article shall tell you about the league’s results and most popular teams, as well as compare its indicators with those of the professional competitions.
April 25th marked the end of the third season of the semi-professional league. The Indonesian esports scene was the main focus of the competition. The season featured a total of 12 teams from the popular organizations in the region. The semi-professional league’s prize fund amounted to $20.5K.
The third season ran for 220 hours (which is double that of the second season), allowing its hours watched indicator to reach the mark of 4.8M – a 52% increase over the second season. However, the peak viewers indicator fell by half – and that was because the teams of the organizations popular in the region (such as RRQ and EVOS) did not make it to the tournament’s finals.
Although RRQ and EVOS have lost their ground, they are still the two most popular teams of the event, and their matches from the group stage belong to the top 5 matches of the tournament. The viewers of MDL are clearly guided by the overall popularity of teams in the region, rather than by their performance in the league itself. This is confirmed by the fact that Siren Esports (the winners of MDL Season 3) Moon did not even make it to the top 5 teams of the tournament: their encounter with Victim in the finals attracted only 58K viewers (which is half as much as the battle of EVOS Icon versus Genflix Aerowolf Junior).
This explains the sharp drop in metrics shown by the third season as compared to the second one, given that in the second season RRQ.Sena reached the final, with every match from the top 5 featuring this team – and in the third season this very team dropped out quite early.
Most popular teams of ML:BB Development League
We ranked the most popular MDL teams based on average viewers. EVOS Icon and RRQ.Sena are going head-to-head with a difference of only 347 viewers. The third spot is occupied by Alter Ego X. This rather resembles the most popular ML:BB teams of 2020, as the top 3 consists of the same organizations, while the spots taken are different.
Of course, this is still a far cry from the results of the main MDL League, but we cannot deny the fact that even with slightly worse results, the league still outperforms some of the professional tournaments in PC disciplines. Should the popular teams of the tournament reach the finals, then the league may well set a new record.
