Twitch Rivals Teamfight Tactics EMEA Showdown: TFT esports scene is almost dead?

Teamfight Tactics used to be one of the most popular auto battler games, but the discipline's esports scene has not been particularly successful. It was decided to revive interest in the project from Riot Games with the help of popular streamers of the discipline and their participation in Twitch Rivals, which took place in several stages. Esports Charts tells whether the Twitch Rivals Teamfight Tactics EMEA Showdown was a success.

Twitch Rivals held Teamfight Tactics qualifiers in 7 countries and one Wildcard. Three of the best streamers from each region received places in the EMEA final, where 8 additional content makers were invited.

The best result in peak viewers among the qualifiers was shown by Turkey24K people watched the broadcast simultaneously. Jahrein (top-4 Turkish streamer in 2020) attracted the most viewers.

In 2019 (the year of the game's release), Twitch Rivals held a Showdown in five regions, and in comparison with the results of 2021 HW in France decreased by 57%, while Spain and the United Kingdom increased their indicators on this metric by 75% and 286%, respectively. Compared to 2019, new regions were added: Poland, Turkey, the CIS and DACH, but the battles stopped in Italy.

In the final on March 24, 32 streamers, who fought for 50K dollars, met. The battle lasted for 7 hours.

The most popular broadcast was held by the official Twitch Rivals channel — 14K peak viewers. It was followed by the Turkish streamer Ging with 13K. He also became the winner of the event. Shaunz, Dalesomhs and Uthenera were also in the top.

Most of HW were brought by Spanish viewers, despite the fact that Turkey was the top 1 among the qualifiers and the winner was also from this country. The French audience with 24% of the total HW is in second place.

The problem with Teamfight Tactics is that the top streamers of the platform are not interested in the game. Twitch Rivals was attended by quite well-known content makers among fans of the discipline, but they covered only the EMEA region. If the organizers had invited more famous streamers among the general Twitch audience, there would have been a lot more viewers.

Therefore, the final of the tournament attracted fewer spectators than unofficial The TurboTax Expert Invitational (such streamers as Becca and xChocoBars took part in it).

Other official series on the discipline (for example, TFT Fates) are rarely held, and without popular streamers the audience of the tournaments will decrease even more.
