The indicators displayed by the League of Legends World Championship in 2020 were incredibly high. Despite facing minor problems with the list of participants, the tournament pretty much managed to stand its ground when compared to the previous competition. We will tell you which of these received the most viewers.
A total of 20 teams fought at LoL Worlds 2020, with only the Vietnamese teams missing the event. The latter were unable to come to China due to the coronavirus pandemic. The majority of teams participating in the competition represented China and Europe – as these two regions showed the best international results in 2018 and 2019.

DAMWON Gaming was the most popular team of all, with its matches being watched by 1.9 million average viewers. Such an impressive indicator was obtained thanks to the team's participation in the final. For the same reason, the second spot went to Suning Gaming with its 1.7 million average viewers.
The gap of 200 thousand viewers between the teams suggests the much higher popularity of the Korean team in the group stage. On the other hand, Suning gained a huge following thanks to the presence of a single Vietnamese player: SofM. The same team was also notable for having the highest airtime: 20 hours, which is equal to 23% of the total airtime of the main stage.
Additionally, a relatively large gap that starts from Gen.G Esports should be also noted. The Korean teams in 6th and 7th spot are also 200 thousand viewers apart. This shows us that reaching the playoffs does not guarantee the participant a large number of viewers. Especially so if the team originally came from a not very popular group.
Legacy eSports became the most unpopular team of LoL Worlds, gathering only 66 thousand average viewers. The reason for this is the low popularity of this participant’s region: Oceania. Its regional championship has always been one of the worst in terms of viewership. This, as well as the poor international performance of teams, led to the abolition of OPL in 2021.
Europe scored a small victory when it comes to the ranking’s top 10 based on average viewers. It includes three LEC teams at once, as well as the same number of teams for LPL (China) and LCK (Korea). Meanwhile, North America (which is the main ideological rival of Europe) features only one representative in the top 10 – Team SoloMid, which occupies the 8th spot in the top.
