The concluding remarks on the first day of the main CS:GO leagues

The year 2020 was widely anticipated as the time of a large-scale competition between the top CS:GO leagues. However, this was somewhat spoiled by the sudden arrival of the coronavirus, with some of the competitions being forced to change the format of their events. Today's blog entry will feature our comparison of the first days of the ESL Pro League, BLAST Premier, and FLASHPOINT.

First of all, we will consider the following three competitions: ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe, BLAST Premier Spring 2020 and FLASHPOINT Season 1. The data will be based on three main indicators: peak viewers, average viewers, and the hours watched – all in the scope of only the first day of each competition.

We should remind you that the BLAST event had a large advantage of being an online event taking place in a large arena – whereas the other two were online events.

The overall look at the situation at hand allows us to label BLAST Premier Spring 2020 an almost unanimous winner – it has exceeded the other two competitions it terms of both the peak and average viewers. In particular, the Russian-language broadcast has played a decisive role in denying the FLASHPOINT any chance of victory. The league's first day was flat out not broadcasted to the CIS-based viewers due to the RUHUB studio's ongoing problems with the Russian authorities. 

However, the event's format did not allow BLAST to lead by the hours watched as well: the first gaming day of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe has managed to score 3 hours more. This difference still amounts to only 5%, and EPL could turn the tide in own favor, had the championships competed on equal footing.

From the other side, FLASHPOINT has a rather grim situation, displaying enormous problems with the peak viewers indicator. The average viewers indicator is also behind that of its competitors, but without displaying such a large gap.

The ESL's inability to show its potential is rather striking. There was a number of important changes the organizer has planned to implement in 2020 – however, these plans were put on hold due to the quarantines and other anti-coronavirus measures. This meant that the championship's 11th season had to stick to the old format. Additionally, the company was faced with the recently reduced number of EPL teams and had to frantically search for the participants for its leagues.

Still, Natus Vincere has remained the ESL's trump card, and rather important one, given the number of records the team has brought this organizer. The team's future matches are right ahead, attracting the interest of both the Russian-speaking viewers and the game's fans from all around the world. This interest is further boosted by the team's feat of occupying the first spot in the HLTV ranking.

It can be concluded that the rivalry over the audience between the ESL Pro League and BLAST Premier will be rather interesting to watch indeed. As for the FLASHPOINT, it had a rather rough and unsatisfactory start, but this league still has a chance for a comeback.
