Mobile gaming is one of the most popular and profitable industries in Asia and Indonesia is one of the most promising Asian mobile esports markets. Considering the financial situation in the country, many gamers can't spend a lot on games and buy gaming PCs, that's why mobile gaming is the ideal option for them to play.
In this article we will review the trends of mobile gaming in this region and will find out which mobile discipline is in favor.
We'll start from the bottom of the ranking. Although this mobile discipline is the most popular in the world, in Indonesia it's an exception, so, Arena of Valor is on the last place in our top. The highest peak of Indonesian spectators was on the most popular event of the discipline - Arena of Valor World Cup 2019, but the peak mark was only 14K spectators from the Indonesian language category. In comparison, the peak of the Vietnamese-speaking viewers was 580K.
The third place in our list went to the Free Fire game. The results of this discipline are already ten times better compared to AoV. On Free Fire World Series 2019 Rio the peak of Indonesian spectators was 165K, and on Free Fire Indonesia Masters 2020 Spring, which was broadcasted on YouTube, the peak was 94,128 spectators.
PUBG Mobile is the second most popular discipline in Indonesia, as it is popular in almost every Asian region.
As for Indonesia, PUBG Mobile Club Open Fall Split Global Finals was watched by 238K Indonesian-speaking spectators. And at one of the last tournaments in this discipline PUBG Mobile Pro League Spring 2020 Indonesia, which has ended on April 5, the peak reached 157K spectators from the Indonesian language category.
This is a very good result for the region and including the fact that the broadcast was held on Facebook Live, this platform usually can't show off with impressing viewership statistics.
The absolute champion in Indonesia is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The game has a very active and large Indonesian community. The official Indonesian group on Facebook has 2,4 million subscribers, but ther broadcasts are held on general MLBB page with 16M subscribers and official YouTube page has 5M subscribers too. The MOBA genre itself attracts both players and viewers with its format.
On one of the last Indonesian MPL ID Season 5 championships the peak of the Indonesian-speaking viewers reached the mark of 643K and even beat the result of MLBB World Championship 2019, where the peak was 467K spectators.
You can read more about the results and new MPL ID Season 5 records and the comments of MLBB Esports Director Lucas Mao about future plans of the league in our blog.
There is no denying that with the current situation, mobile esports is gaining its momentum around the world and we are confident that this is just the beginning for Indonesia, as we see that the audience is very interested in mobile gaming.
