2024 League of Legends Worlds opening ceremony attracts record 4.2 million viewers
The 2024 League of Legends World Championship Grand Final is finally upon us, as T1 faces Bilibili Gaming with the ultimate glory on the line. That it is a battle between representatives of two of the game's dominant forces in South Korea and China gives it an added edge.
However, before the main event began, fans witnessed the opening ceremony for the Grand Final. It hit a massive 4.2M Peak Viewers, beating the previous record for an esports event set during the 2022 edition, which did 3.3M PV. The 2023 equivalent, meanwhile, recorded 2.5M PV and featured NewJeans, the new K-pop group, and Heartsteel, a then-newly created virtual boy band consisting of alternate versions of popular LoL characters.
The opening ceremony for the 2024 Worlds featured Ashnikko, Mars Atlas of Forts, Tiffany Aris, and Linkin Park. The last entry, a world-famous band, had the honor of performing the final performance, this year's anthem, Heavy is the Crown. It gave many fans a glimpse of their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong, and was accompanied by fire, flames, and the introduction of the two participating finalists onto the stage.
At the time of writing, the first game of the Grand Final had come to an end, with BIlibili Gaming taking a 1:0 lead. Readers can stay tuned to Esports Charts for more updates, with detailed stats, including languages and platforms, available with a PRO subscription.
