Blizzard Entertainment hosted an event called the 2024 Arena World Championship Season 3 Mid-Season Clash on the weekend of March 2-3. It was the first cross-region tournament for World of Warcraft in 2024, signifying the halfway point of the competitive season. The Mid-Season Clash broadcasts drew over 35K Peak Viewers, it was the tenth-highest result in the series' history and the second-best in 2024.

Eight teams competed for the championship title of AWC 2024 Season 3 Mid-Season Clash — the top four teams from both Europe and North America, based on their points earned in regional tournaments. In the decisive match, Echo avenged their defeat to Team Liquid in the upper bracket final, securing a victory with a score of 4:1.

The final matchup wasn't surprising for World of Warcraft esports fans, as both Echo and Liquid are the strongest representatives of their regions. Echo boasts a long list of victories in European tournaments, including the AWC 2023 EU S2 Finals championship, while Team Liquid has similar achievements in North America. One of these teams will likely emerge as the champion of the season's final tournament.

What is World of Warcraft esports?

Although initially not conceived as an esports discipline, World of Warcraft now hosts three types of competitions. The most popular among them is the Race to World First, guilds' speedrunning races through expansions attract hundreds of thousands of viewers. Second in popularity is the Mythic Dungeon Invitational series, where teams compete in speedrunning dungeons and boss kills.

As for the Arena World Championship series, while it is more esports-oriented due to its PvP component, its events attract far fewer viewers compared to Race to World First and Mythic Dungeon Invitational. World of Warcraft's arena battles have their dedicated fans, but their numbers are relatively small: the most popular event gathered 43.6K PV. As time has shown, even prize pools don't significantly impact audience reach. For instance, EU Cup 1 with a $10,000 prize pool had more viewers than the Mid-Season Clash, where $100,000 was at stake.
