Arena World Championship Season 2 loses momentum in viewership after a strong start to the year
The second season of World of Warcraft’s Arena World Championship came to a close on the 13th of August, as both the European and North American Grand Finals finished. In Europe, the multinational ECHO Esports were victorious, and across the pond in America Team Liquid came out on top. The season saw $380K USD in prize money go towards the community but viewership was on a downturn following the first season of the year.
AWC 2023 Season 2 Grand Finals Viewership

Viewership statistics of the AWC 2023 Season 2 Grand Finals, North America and Europe
Both major regions for AWC are very close to each other in terms of viewership. Throughout the seasons of the esports discipline it's usually a toss-up for which region receives more viewership, and this time the European Grand Final received more viewership.
The EU Grand Finals received 178.3K Hours Watched throughout the finals event, and their NA counterparts were close behind with 177.5K Hours Watched. A much different situation than the Season 1 Grand Finals of this year, where NA received over 43K more hours of watch time. In terms of Peak Viewers, the EU event received 27.8K concurrent viewers are peak, 3K more than NA in this regard. Despite receiving more Peak Viewers, NA had consistently a larger viewership than Europe and was only defeated in watch time due to a shorter airtime.
GG vs Dukamified was the most popular match within NA, which was the Losers’ Round 1 match. Dukamified were knocked out by Golden Guardians and interestingly viewership immediately dropped off. Dukamified qualified for the Grand Finals through the NA Season 2 Gauntlet qualifier and after their exit from the event there was a significant drop in viewership that failed to be recovered for the final match of the event. In Europe, things were a bit more predictable as the final match between ECHO and Admirals Esports was the most-watched match of the event.

Most popular streamers for AWC Season 2 Grand Finals
Looking towards the most popular broadcasts for each of the events, the official World of Warcraft channels were the most popular channels of the event. The Warcraft Twitch channel was the most popular channel for each event, but the YouTube channel also received a surprising amount of viewership. In traditional Western esports titles we usually expect Twitch to highly outperform YouTube, but for this event, YouTube received significant viewership.
Community casters were also highly important for the event. Both events were broadcasted by about 30 community casters and co-streams throughout the events’ runtime. Many of these channels received thousands of hours of watch time, not enough to compete against the official broadcast channels, but enough to influence viewership.
Looking towards the EU Grand Finals, our PRO subscribers should note the community caster that appears on the final podium spot. With just less than 3K Peak Viewers, he was not as popular as his American community caster counterpart, but he did heavily influence the viewership of the event. The streamer broadcasted the NA event for a European audience and the language of the broadcast was the most popular language of the event, behind English.
AWC 2023 Season 2 Cups Viewership Statistics

Looking towards the four cups that were held in each region throughout the season, the North American region received more viewership in all areas than their European counterparts. Each region hosted four tournaments, each with a prize pool of $10K USD. North America received 533.6K hours of watch time, 13% more than EU’s recorded 471K Hours Watched.
Peak Viewers were also higher for NA, the match between Golden Guardians and Team Liquid at the fourth cup of the season was the most-watched match of the event series. These two teams would end up facing off at the Grand Finals, although Golden Guardians had to settle for third place as Luminosity Gaming took second. In Europe, the match between Echo Esports and Admirals Esports at the second cup of the season received 19.8K Peak Viewers, the most of any match throughout the cups. These two teams would end up facing off in the Grand Finals as well, but Echo Esports took first place and Admirals Esports had to settle for second.
These metrics are sadly not what the community was hoping for, following Season 1 of this year. This year’s Season 1 of the AWC was one of the most popular events in the series, with 43.6K concurrent viewers watching the first NA cup of the year. The number of concurrent viewers was enough to rank it fourth within all-time AWC events, per peak concurrent viewers. It’s a shame for the discipline, as they seem to have taken a step backwards in viewership compared to their strong start to the year.
Another game mode for the best players in the world to compete in: The Great Push Global Finals are kicking off this weekend as the six best teams in the world face off in a PvE game mode for a chance to win a chunk of the $300K USD prize pool. It will be broadcasted on Warcraft’s official Twitch and YouTube channels, tune in yourself or wait for Esports Charts to give you an update on the event’s viewership.
