EMEA Masters Summer 2023 Group Stage sees viewership rise with Karmine Corp's return

The EMEA Masters Summer 2023, which got underway at the Sud de France Arena in Perols, France, on August 14 and will run until September 8, has seen its Group Stage conclude. With the return of Karmine Corp and the good performance of the French sides, it has seen an upturn in viewership numbers compared to last year’s edition.

The Play-Ins saw GTZ Esports, Team GO, Anorthosis Esports, and Dsyre join 12 already-qualified teams in the Group Stage, which ended on August 24. The Quarterfinals of the Knockout Stage will see Team GO take on SK Gaming Prime, Istanbul Wildcats face Karmine Corp, BK ROG Esports battle Movistar Riders, and Macko Esports clash with GTZ Esports.

The EMEA Masters Summer 2023 hit 134K Peak Viewers during the Group Stage, Day 3 clash between Karmine Corp and Nativz. In fact, their various matches form the top three on this list, with the former involved in all five entries. It helped that they played each other an extra time after tying at 3:3 at the end of the regulation pool games, necessitating a tiebreaker to see who would proceed as the second-placed side.

There is no surprise that Karmine Corp has been the most popular side in terms of viewership so far. Having failed to qualify for the previous split, the EMEA Masters Spring 2023, Kamet0's roster has come back with a restructured team and created quite a positive impact. All this has seen this event notch 2M Hours Watched and 44K Average Viewers over an airtime of 45 hours.

Both metrics were falls from last year's competition, which can be attributed to the fact that the Play-In in 2022 had popular teams like Vitality.Bee and SK Gaming Prime. Moreover, the Group Stage had highly-followed sides such as Team Heretics and Team BDS, meaning they were able to bring in more viewers to watch the action. 

With Karmine Corp and the other French side, Team GO, making the Knockout Stage, French viewership also saw a significant rise of 146.4% compared to the European Masters Summer 2022. What helped this cause was that Kamet0 was the most popular channel during the Group Stage by a mile as he closely followed all his side's matches, bringing along millions of his fans.
