Esports World Cup 2024 circuit reaches 100 million Hours Watched

Jul 31, 2024 4 leitura min

The inaugural edition of the Esports World Cup has been going on for almost a month, and there are still around 30 days of action left for fans to lap up. So far, competitions in games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and League of Legends have ended as the most popular and the only ones to cross the one million Peak Viewers mark, with the former also enjoying top billing as the most-watched event.

Speaking of watch time, the EWC 2024 has so far generated over 100 million Hours Watched, including its various qualifier competitions, becoming just the fourth series to do so this year. It is also one of the only four series to pass the 2 million PV mark and the third to cross a thousand hours in airtime.

Note: Stats from Chinese live-streaming platforms have not been included as their viewership data remains unreliable.

The top series by cumulative watch time in 2024 is the Valorant Champions Tour 2024, which has touched over 220 million HW over almost 1200 hours. The VCT 2024: Masters Madrid, which ended as the title's most popular tournament ever, played a big role in this development.

Coming back to the Esports World Cup 2024, the MLBB, LoL, and Dota 2 events have contributed just over half of the overall watch time mentioned above. That they represent three of the biggest names in the competitive video gaming scene makes this no surprise.

That is why it would come as a massive surprise for any other game to come close to matching these numbers and help the series reach the next-best one, the MLBB Professional League, which has a little over 140M HW so far. The Indonesian championship alone contributed heftily to this figure, hitting around 110M HW during its three-month-long run.

Five most watched EWC 2024 events

EWC X MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024
29 142 707 HW
Riyadh Masters 2024
26 332 640 HW
League of Legends 12 509 707 HW
Counter-Strike 2 10 293 730 HW
PUBG Mobile World Cup 2024
8 998 718 HW

Among the next two series that come after the EWC 2024, the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 was closest to touching the 100 million HW mark. Nevertheless, it did really well as a standalone competition, with its peak concurrent viewership of 1.8M people making it the third most popular event ever in Counter-Strike.

NAVI — easily the most popular team in the game today, despite the recent absence of s1mple — won the trophy to become the first Major winner of the CS2 era, which helped a lot in this success. Additionally, Ukrainian, Turkish, and Romanian set new language viewership records, while the much-followed Twitch community of streamers multicast on YouTube, helping expand the tournament's audience reach.

We must also mention the Mid-Season Invitational 2024, one of the four series to break the 2M PV barrier this year. It's also the most popular esports competition this year, setting several new viewership records along the way and reaffirming the growing importance of community casting in LoL's competitive scene.

Detailed statistics on all major esports tournaments and series, including major ones like the Esports World Cup 2024, are available with the Esports Charts PRO subscription, the benefits of which can be checked here.

Moving on to extra information for stats nerds, even when looking at the all-time stats, the EWC 2024 has jumped to the 32nd position, with series like the MSC, RoV Pro League, and Vietnam Championship Series in sight over the next 25 days of competition. Again, there won't be much shock among readers to know that series from LoL, MLBB, CS2, and Dota 2 top this leaderboard.

There's a lot more to come for fans at the Saudi esports extravaganza until August 25. Tournaments in disciplines like Apex Legends, Street Fighter, and Rainbow Six Siege are yet to come, meaning lots of opportunities for more viewership news, which Esports Charts will continue to track.
