SilverName gets banned, new format and Twitch broadcasts: first Battlegrounds Lobby Legends tournament overview

Apr 12, 2022 5 leitura min

Hearthstone recently hosted its first long-awaited Battlegrounds Lobby Legends tournament. The event, named Raid Leaders, featured 16 of the best Battleground players competing for a share of the $50K prize pool and the title of the first Lobby Legends champion. In a new Esports Charts article, we will tell you about the official debut of the new esports mode, as well as results and viewership statistics of the tournament.

Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders was divided into two game days. In the first one, the participants were split into two groups and played three matches, scoring points based on their place (7 points for 1st place, 6 points for 2nd place, etc.). As part of the second day, the top 8 players of the event competed in an ongoing Check format until a winner is crowned. In “Check” format, points are scored as usual, but you have to earn at least 20 points and then take first place in the match to win the tournament.

BeNice, a German player from CGN Esports, became the champion of Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders, scoring 28 points after winning the fifth round. A Chinese man hof placed second with 19 points, while KenKen from Canada rounded out the top three with 18 points earned.

Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders Viewership Statistics

Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders matches, unlike classic Hearthstone tournaments, were streamed both on YouTube and on Twitch. Moreover, the championship participants themselves had the right to stream the games with a time delay. All of this helped the event gather a sufficiently large audience and literally revive viewer interest in the discipline.

Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders accumulated more than 245.6K Hours Watched in just over 9 hours being streamed, and attracted 26.3K Average Viewers. Over 36.2K Peak Viewers watched the fifth round of the event's final day, which is the best result of the tournament. It is noteworthy that Twitch attracted almost three times as many viewers as YouTube.

The most popular languages of the Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders broadcast were English, French, and Chinese. The largest audience was attracted by a representative of the G2 Esports organization, Rdu, rather than the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. The professional player was not a participant in the tournament, but covered it so actively that he amassed 59.2K Hours Watched (24% of the total) and attracted 8.6K Peak Viewers.

The official Hearthstone Twitch channel and the French organization Solary's channel also made significant contributions to Battlegrounds Lobby Legends Raid Leaders' total Hours Watched, accumulating 19% and 12% of HW, respectively. A Russian player guDDummit, who participated in the tournament, drew 4.7K Peak Viewers on his broadcast and took third place by this metric. He could have attracted even more viewers to Raid Leaders if he had not dropped out of the tournament after the first round.

It should be noted that a few days before the start of the event, the most popular Hearthstone Twitch streamer Vladislav ‘SilverName’ Sinotov was banned from Battlegrounds tournaments until October 1 of this year. He was accused of teaming with other players in matchmaking. Sinotov called the ban unfair because he had been doing similar things long before the Battlegrounds competitive season was announced. We can say that SilverName's ban resulted in the Battlegrounds Lobby Legends series losing a huge percentage of its audience.

Most popular official Hearthstone tournaments in 2022

However, the first Battlegrounds Lobby Legends tournament was significantly more popular than all Hearthstone tournaments in 2022. Masters Tour 2022 Ruins of Alterac, which holds second place, is more than three times behind it by Peak Viewers.

Compared to the last major tournaments in this mode, Raid Leaders is inferior to Twitch Rivals streamer events, but has similar results compared to Hearthstone Battlegrounds EMEA Cup.

Raid Leaders did not become the most successful event in Battlegrounds mode, but was much more popular than the standard 2022 tournaments, interest in which has waned in almost the entire Hearthstone community. The next Battlegrounds Lobby Legends tournament named Noblegarden kicks off on May 14-15. The third event in the series is scheduled for the end of June.
