First Stand 2026 opens with over 25% more viewers than last year in São Paulo
The 2026 League of Legends esports season reaches its first international milestone today as First Stand 2026 gets underway at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. The tournament marks the return of international League of Legends competition to the country after many years — and the opening match delivered immediately. The series between Bilibili Gaming and BNK FearX opened the tournament to a strong result, far outperforming last year’s opening match.
First Stand 2026 Opening Day Viewership
The opening game of the First Stand 2026 featured a showdown between China’s decorated Bilibili Gaming and South Korea’s BFK FEARX. The series turned out to be a heated match, with BLG down 1:2 after three games. For each of the last three games of the series, where BLG stood on the precipice of an opening loss, viewership reached a similar peak over and over. Ultimately, BLG’s experience took them over the line and the Chinese squad was able to earn a 3:2 win.

The strong viewership peak, and indeed consistency, of the opening match for the First Stand 2026 sets a promising tone for the first interregional LoL esports event of the year, and its return to Brazil. With over 774,000 Peak Viewers tuning in for the final game of the best-of-five, and well-over 700,000 viewers recorded for the previous two games of the series, the game between BLG and BFX proved to be one of the most exciting opening games for a tournament this year.
The result is also promising for the remainder of the tournament, with it marking a significant growth over last year’s first match. While the inaugural First Stand was highly-watched last year, it was perhaps not as popular as organizers Riot Games would have hoped for. Comparing the two results, it seems that the event is in a better position to impress with its viewership statistics in 2026.
Comparison to First Stand 2025

First Stand 2025's opening match between Team Liquid and Karmine Corp peaked at 606,000 concurrent viewers — itself a strong baseline for a tournament in its debut year. The peak produced by BLG versus BFX on Day 1 of the 2026 edition represents a 27.7% year-on-year increase on that figure, and arrives before many of the globe’s most popular teams have played a single map.
The format expansion to eight teams and the shift to Bo5 group stage matches was anticipated to drive viewership growth by increasing both competitive stakes and airtime per match — and the opening peak suggests that expectation is being met. The 2025 edition's overall tournament peak reached 1.1 million concurrent viewers; with the opening match already exceeding its 2025 equivalent by a significant margin, the 2026 edition is well positioned to surpass that ceiling before the knockout stage begins.
Esports Charts will continue to track viewership data for First Stand 2026 throughout the group stage and knockout rounds, with live-updated statistics available on the tournament page.
