Mainstage 2022 — Smash Bros Ultimate event has set a new series record
Mainstage is a tournament series by Beyond The Summit that got its start in 2019 and is held annually in Ontario, California. The competition is a qualifier for Smash Summit Series tournaments - the top 6 players in Ultimate and Melee each advance there.
The Mainstage 2022 event was held in early December, where Super Smash Bros. players (Ultimate and Melee) competed in both Singles and Doubles formats. The SSBU championship has attracted a record Peak Viewers number in the series, and the SSBM tournament has ranked in the Top 3. In a new Esports Charts article, we'll tell you more about the results and viewership statistics of the event.
Mainstage 2022 Ultimate
A total of 512 players took part in the SSBU Singles tournament, and Sparg0 from Mexico, a FaZe Clan member, became the champion. Tweek, Big D, Light, ApolloKage and Kurama also made it to the Top 6, all of whom, including Sparg0, qualified for Smash Ultimate Summit 6 in March 2023. In Doubles matches there were 116 duos, and the duo of Scend and Lui$ was the strongest.

Mainstage 2022 Ultimate drew 94.7K Peak Viewers, which, as mentioned above, has become the new record in the series. The tournament was on air for nearly 28.5 hours and amassed 560K Hours Watched, while the Average Viewers number was 19.8K.
English became the most popular language of the Mainstage 2022 Ultimate broadcasts, with over 97% of the total HW of the event. At the same time, btssmash, owned by the tournament organizers, became the most popular channel both by PV and HW. Second place goes to the popular creator moistcr1tikal, who owns the Moist Esports esports club, and the Top 3 is rounded by the streamer CONEY.
Mainstage 2022 Melee
SSBM was released back in 2001, so SSBU, the most recent installment in the series released in 2018, is slightly less popular. Partly because of this, the number of Mainstage 2022 Melee Singles participants (389 players) was 24% lower than Mainstage 2022 Ultimate, and the number of players in Doubles (116 duos) was 32.5% lower than Mainstage 2022 Ultimate.
Mang0, who represents Cloud9 esports Club, won the Mainstage 2022 Melee title. The Top 6 of the tournament also included iBDW, aMSa, SluG, Hungrybox and Leffen — all of whom, including Mang0, qualified for Smash Summit 15, which will be held in June 2023. The Doubles champions were the duo of Ginger and FatGoku.

Mainstage 2022 Melee's Peak Viewers number was 26% lower than Mainstage 2022 Ultimate, reaching 75.1K people. The tournament was on air for slightly fewer than 27 hours and amassed 451.5K Hours Watched. The Average Viewers number was 16.8K.
English-language broadcasts contributed 99.5% of Mainstage 2022 Melee's HW, with the rest made up by the French professional player and caster chez_ib. The Top 3 channels of the tournament by both PV and HW includes btssmash, btssmash2, and moistcr1tikal.
