EWC x MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 Group Stage reached a higher peak viewership than any of the previous editions
The EWC x MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 continued in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, finishing its Group Stage on July 7. The $3 million USD tournament has brought some of the best Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams from around the globe together, but despite its high viewership, it may face issues in the final stages of the event.
As we covered in our previous article on the event’s Wildcard Stage, viewership for the start of the tournament was even higher than that of last year’s M5 World Championship’s Wildcard. Moving into the Groups, viewership for the tournament has remained high, but unable to keep up with the viewership achieved by world championship events.
EWC x MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 Group Stage Viewership Statistics

The Group Stage of the MSC received 12.47M Hours Watched in total and held 375.8K Average Viewers. This does represent a slight drop in viewership compared to last year’s Southeast Asian Cup, but the ongoing MSC reached a peak viewership never before seen by the Southeast Asian Cups. The Group Stage reached 1.2M Peak Viewers for its match between Fnatic ONIC and See You Soon.
Fnatic ONIC are the reigning champions of last year’s Southeast Asian Cup, but the Indonesian team failed to advance from the groups, partially due to their loss against See You Soon. The organization was Indonesia’s highest-seeded team for the event, and in fact, no Indonesian team has advanced to the Knockout Stage of the tournament.
The lack of Indonesian teams competing in the Knockout Stage presents a challenge for the MSC, as Indonesian audiences are their most crucial for viewership. Indonesian-language broadcasts reached a peak of 725.9K PV during the Group Stage, far outperforming the next-most popular language: Bahasa Malaysia with 243.6K PV. The new Mid Season Cup was potentially going to be a record-breaking tournament in regard to viewership, but without Indonesian fans supporting their favourite team, this will be especially challenging to achieve.

Looking through the most popular matches of the Group Stage, the influence of these Indonesian audiences is clear to see. Indonesian organization and team Fnatic ONIC was the most popular team of the stage, appearing in all three of the stage’s most popular matches. Only matches featuring Fnatic ONIC were able to break 7-figure concurrent viewers, highlighting the importance of Indonesia for the esports title’s viewership.
The Playoffs stage for the Mid Season Cup begins on July 10, with all eight qualified teams competing against each other in best-of-five matches. The event will come to a close on July 14, with a best-of-seven Grand Final match planned.

The playoffs stage of the Mid Season Cup begins on July 10 with Team Liquid Echo’s match against Falcon Esports. Visit our EWC x MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 Schedule tab for the upcoming playoffs schedule, and to keep up to date on the remaining matches of the event. The MSC has a tall order ahead of it to continue to increase its viewership without Indonesian teams, but the collaboration between Moonton and the Esports World Cup may be enough for this historic event to be one of the most-watched ML:BB events ever.
