Esports Charts gathered statistics with the most popular esports teams in 2022. There were several newcomers to the new ranking, and last year's leader lost eight positions at once. Natus Vincere remained in the top 3, but the s1mple team was overtaken by the Mobile Legends roster from Indonesia.

Disclaimer: The above statistics do not take into account the data of Chinese streaming services due to the peculiarities of their calculation of viewer activity. In the ranking, we also did not take into account the statistics from tournaments in the battle royale genre.

The rating takes into account the statistics of squads in different esports disciplines. Top 10 organizations will be published later.

#10 — DWG KIA (League of Legends)

The Korean team DWG KIA took the first spot in 2021 and dropped nine positions at once in 2022. It generated 47.9M Hours Watched (down 50.2%). Its Average Viewers indicator dropped from 626K to 355K viewers. This drop in metrics is directly related to the team’s results.

In 2021, DWG KIA won both LCK splits and advanced to the World Championship finals, and in 2022 the team failed to rise above the third spot in the regular seasons and took only the 5-8th spot in the 2022 World Championship.

#9 — G2 Esports (CS:GO)

G2 Esports has improved its position in the rankings by moving up one spot. The year turned out to be rather difficult for the team of NiKo due to frequent reshuffles and a change of captain. The results of the roster during the season were extremely modest, and only at the end of the year did G2 manage to score a major victory, having won the BLAST Premier World Final 2022 trophy.

G2 matches have generated 50.9M Hours Watched and attracted 265K Average Viewers. The most popular match was the encounter between G2 and FaZe Clan in the finals of IEM Katowice 2022, which gathered 1.1M Peak Viewers.

#8 spot — EVOS Legends (Mobile Legends)

Team EVOS Legends from Indonesia lost four positions at once compared to last year's popularity ranking. First of all, the number of views was affected by the reshuffle in the roster and the following underwhelming performance in the MPL league. The EVOS roster also failed to qualify for the M4 World Championship, which will be held in January in Jakarta.

In terms of numbers, in 2022 EVOS generated 51M Hours Watched (down 25%). The most popular match involving EVOS attracted 2.8M Peak Viewers.

#7 — Gen.G Esports (League of Legends)

Gen.G Esports had a great season in the LCK. The team reached the finals of the spring split, where they lost to T1 in the fight for the championship. In the summer, the situation repeated itself and these teams met again in the final, but this time the victory went to Gen.G Esports. Later in the US, the Korean team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championship, thus repeating their previous year's result.

In 2022, matches involving Gen.G Esports generated 52.7M Hours Watched. The most popular of them was the semi-final of the World Championship against DRX, followed by 1.9M Peak Viewers

#6 — ONIC Esports (Mobile Legends)

In 2022, the ONIC Esports ML:BB roster was noted for its stable performance in the MPL Indonesia leagues: the team reached the finals of the ninth season and won the tenth (both times they met RRQ Hoshi in the finals). Later, ONIC also won the ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2022.

In total, ONIC Esports generated 56.2M Hours Watched (up 19.6%) and gathered 557K Average Viewers during its matches, as well as 2.3M Peak Viewers during the match against RRQ Hoshi in MPL Indonesia Season 10.

#5th — FaZe Clan (CS:GO)

Toward the end of the year, FaZe Clan players got noticeably tired — at the IEM Rio Major in Brazil, the team took only the 15-16th spot, and that’s while being the current champion. However, this was followed by taking the second spot at BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2022 and the 3rd-4th spot at BLAST Premier: World Final 2022, so FaZe players went on the New Year holidays in a good mood.

Over the year, the team of karrigan generated 60.1M Hours Watched (up 91.7%) and attracted 261.9K Average Viewers during its matches. The Peak Viewers mark of 2.1M was reached during the FaZe versus NAVI series at the Antwerp Major. We also note that FaZe Clan took the lead by airtime among all teams in the top 10 — in total, its matches lasted almost 230 hours. Overall, FaZe had a successful year and met its end in the top 5 of the CS:GO world rankings.

#4 — DRX (League of Legends)

DRX has been the highlight of this competitive League of Legends season. In the spring and summer splits, the team did not show any outstanding results and barely qualified for the World Championship. But at the 2022 World Championship, the situation changed: DRX not only reached the finals but also triumphed over T1 there. This grand final was watched by 5.1M Peak Viewers. In total, DRX generated 69.2M Hours Watched in 2022 (of which 43.7M or 63% came from the World Cup). The team’s matches gathered 477K Average Viewers.

#3 — Natus Vincere (CS:GO)

The CS:GO roster of the Ukrainian club Natus Vincere dropped from the second spot in 2021 to the third, generating 74.4M Hours Watched in 2022 (down 14.8%). Matches of the team of s1mple were watched by more than 384K Average Viewers (up 24%). The Peak Viewers mark of 2.1M was reached during the match of NAVI versus FaZe Clan at PGL Major Antwerp 2022. It should be reminded that during the major in Stockholm, the match of NAVI versus G2 was watched by as many as 2.74M Peak Viewers.

In 2021, the NAVI roster won almost everything within their reach, including scoring the long-awaited victory at PGL Major Stockholm 2021 and the Intel Grand Slam series. In 2022, the results of the team were significantly lower. Although NAVI had every chance to triumph at the major in Antwerp, it failed to defeat FaZe Clan in the final.

#2 — RRQ Hoshi (Mobile Legends)

RRQ Hoshi from Indonesia holds the second spot in the ranking. This is one of the most popular teams in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, as well as in mobile esports in general. In 2022, matches with its participation generated 88.2M Hours Watched (up 30.3%) and attracted 750K Average Viewers (down 17.5%), which is the best result among all teams in the top 10 rankings.

The Peak Viewers mark for RRQ Hoshi matches was reached during its series versus EVOS Legends as part of the MPL Indonesia Season 9 regional league and amounted to 2.8M viewers. Note that compared to last year, RRQ Hoshi climbed as many as three positions, which was the largest increase among the top participants. RRQ's progress is driven by its domestic league results: in 2022, it got to participate in the MPL Indonesia finals twice and scored one victory.

#1 — T1 (League of Legends)

The most popular team in 2022 was T1 (League of Legends). In the last tournament season, it generated 112.9M Hours Watched. T1 matches were followed by more than 675K Average Viewers (up 27.5%). The Peak Viewers mark was reached during the T1 match against DRX in the grand final of the 2022 World Championship, and amounted to more than 5.14M viewers. This is the best indicator among all esports tournaments in 2022.

Compared to the same ranking last year, T1 has climbed two positions, and its Hours Watched grew by 53%. The impressive results of T1 have a positive effect not only on its popularity but also on the popularity of the LCK league, as well as on the viewership of international League of Legends tournaments in which the team participates.

Most popular esports teams in 2022

Compared to last year's ranking, the balance of power among the esports disciplines has not changed much. League of Legends and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang retained the number of representatives in the top, although the teams MAD LionsCloud9, and Blacklist International lost their places to other teams.

In 2021, there was one representative of Dota 2 in the top: holding the eighth spot with a result of 52.4M Hours Watched was Team Spirit. In 2022, not a single MOBA representative from Valve made it to the top, and still the same Team Spirit generated fewer than 32M Hours Watched. As a result, the Dota 2 slot in the top went to the third CS:GO representative in the face of G2 Esports.

As for Valorant, among all the teams OpTic Gaming was the closest to entering the top 10. The club from North America took the second spot at VALORANT Champions 2022 and generated 19.7M Hours Watched in the tournament, but this was not enough to get ahead of DWG KIA. As a result, OpTic Gaming holds the 12th spot with its 46M Hours Watched.
