MPL Indonesia returns to 1.49M peak concurrent viewers, making it the most popular esports event of 2024 so far
The Mobile Legends Professional League Indonesia is the world’s most-watched esports league and it returned on March 8 for its 13th season. Mobile Legends Bang Bang is expanding its esports scene and delivering more action than ever this year, and the MPL Indonesia Season 13 started the year off with characteristically high viewership for the opening day matches.
The opening day featured Alter Ego, the newly rebranded EVOS Glory, Dewa United Esports, and Rebellion Esports. All of these teams finished in the lower half of Season 12’s table, so they were looking to start the year out strong with a win. Days two and three followed with more of the biggest Indonesian teams facing off against each other, but the final day 3 of Week 1 hosted some of the most popular names in the MPL: RRQ Hoshi and ONIC Esports.
Week 1 viewership statistics for MPL Season 13

In total, the opening three days of matches of the season garnered 9.75M Hours Watched and 1.49M Peak Viewers. Viewership is slightly down compared to the MPL Season 12’s opening week, but the previous Season 12 became the most-watched esports league of all time. There is still plenty of room for the MPL Season 13 to grow and garner millions more hours of watch time.
Indonesian remains the most popular language of the event by far, but for the league’s first week English-language viewership was slightly down, and Burmese-language broadcasts received more attention than the previous season. The MPL may be developing a strong secondary audience this season in the form of Burmese-speaking fans.

The weekend’s penultimate match between Aura Fire and RRQ Hoshi was the most popular match of the weekend for fans, and it was the only match of Week 1 to reach more than 1M PV. RRQ is one of the longest-standing names in the Indonesian MPL, and they hold multiple regional championships and some top-3 performances at the world championship under their belt.
Although Aura Fire’s match against RRQ was one of the most popular matches of the first week, their other match against Dewa United Esports received far less viewership, hinting at the fact that the high viewership for their other game was thanks to RRQ Hoshi’s popularity rather than their own.
Alter Ego are an established esports brand in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and their 6 years of history in the Indonesian scene of the esports discipline has bought them a sizable following and audience. Although their results have been up and down lately, fans are still passionate and supportive, tuning into their first couple of games for Season 13 of the professional league.
The winner and runner-up of the MPL ID Season 13 will now advance directly to the brand-new Mid-Season Cup. ML:BB is making big changes to its esports scene in 2024 as it tries to scale up, and the new Mobile Legends: Mid-Season Cup is part of this expansion. The first iteration of this major tournament will begin in late June in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With $3M USD on the line, it will be the most expensive ML:BB tournament ever held, and the first ML:BB tournament to feature a 7-figure prize pool.
Esports Charts will continue to report on the viewership for the MPL Indonesia as the league progresses through its 9-week regular season. Keep an eye on the tournament page for viewership statistics as the games happen, or our articles for more curated statistics.
