MPL Indonesia Season 10 — largest Mobile Legends league keeps huge audience reach

MPL Indonesia is the largest regional league on the professional Mobile Legends: Bang Bang scene, which draws an enormous number of fans. The last matches of the 10th anniversary season ended On October 23, determining the teams that will represent the region in the World Championships in Jakarta. Tournament Results

MPL Indonesia Season 10 organizers stuck to the format of previous seasons and traditionally held the tournament in two stages. First, eight teams played a round-robin series in the general group to determine playoff seeding. EVOS Legends and Geek Fam ID scored the least points in the Group Stage, so they left the tournament first.

Alter Ego, Bigetron Alpha, Rebellion Zion and AURA Fire played in the first round of the playoffs. ONIC Esports and RRQ Hoshi were seeded in the second round as group stage leaders. It was these two teams who won quota places for the World Championship. First, ONIC Esports and RRQ Hoshi played in the upper bracket final, where RRQ Hoshi won. After that, ONIC Esports got to the lower bracket final, defeated AURA Fire there, and then took revenge on RRQ Hoshi in the Grand Final.

The results of MPL Indonesia Season 10 were quite predictable: two of the strongest teams in the region faced off in the final. We should remind you that ONIC Esports and RRQ Hoshi played in the finals of the last three seasons, taking first place in turn. ONIC Esports won $140K for the victory in the anniversary season, and RRQ Hoshi earned $67.2K.

Viewership Statistics

MPL Indonesia Season 10 matches totaled more than 80.8 million Hours Watched. The broadcast saw the Average Viewers number of 440.1K people, and the Peak Viewers number of 2.3 million people. The PV result was recorded on October 23 during the Grand Final between ONIC and RRQ Hoshi. The previous confrontation between these teams in the final of the upper bracket attracted more than 2 million PV. In the other matches, it never rose above 1.7 million PV.

RRQ Hoshi became the most popular team of the tournament — it is a leader by HW (34.3 million) and AV (839K people). ONIC is in second place according to both metrics.

Most popular teams of MPL Indonesia Season 10

Indonesian became the most popular broadcast language, accounting for 83.8% of total HW, and reaching a PV number of 1.95 million people. English comes second (16%). As for the distribution of viewers by platform, 85% of fans followed the matches on YouTube. The remaining 15% chose TikTok and Facebook.

The most popular broadcast channels are the official MPL Indonesia, Mobile Legends, and ML:BB Indonesia YouTube channels. They showed the best results by PV and HW.

It is interesting that the MPL Indonesia channel fell just a little short of a new concurrent viewership record. The MPL Indonesia Season 9 playoffs in April reached 942K PV, and MPL Indonesia Season 10 had 935K PV.

MPL Indonesia viewership comparison (2021-2022)

The MPL Indonesia Season 10 remains at a consistently high level compared to previous seasons. The HW and AV totals remain virtually unchanged. Things are different with PV: there were 2.8 million PV who followed MPL Indonesia Season 9 concurrently, the highest total in the league's history. In Season 10, the PV number dropped by 460K (to 2.38 million). 

That drop is not critical, but this metric could have been higher if, for example, EVOS Legends had shown a good performance level instead of being among the first to drop out of the tournament. The fact is that EVOS is one of the most popular esports brands in Southeast Asia and Indonesia in particular. EVOS Legends has always attracted a large number of fans, and the fact is that EVOS is one of the most popular eSports brands in Southeast Asia, and Indonesia in particular. Team EVOS Legends has always attracted a large number of viewers, but it had a big reshuffle before the start of the jubilee MPL season — almost the entire roster of players was changed. Renewed team failed to show good results, which decreased the interest of viewers. As a result, the PV number of the league declined, although the AV number remained at the same level as in previous seasons. We should note that it was EVOS Legends that played in the most popular matches of MPL ID S7, S8 and S9.

ONIC Esports and RRQ Hoshi will represent Indonesia in M4 World Championship scheduled for January 1-15, 2023 in Jakarta at MPL Arena and Istora Senayan GBK. The best teams in the world will compete for a prize pool of $800K in the event.
