OG update hype makes The Reunion featuring Fortnite one of discipline’s most popular events this year
BoomTV hosted the $100K tournament, The Reunion featuring Fortnite, on November 13 and 14, one of the first to take place after the well-received OG update. It ended as the organizer's second-most popular tournament and the third-most-popular Fortnite one for 2023.
You thought The Reunion was the main event. IT'S NOT!

At the end of it all, it was the duo of Bugha and Ajerss (Team Dignitas) who emerged as victors. They accrued 203 points, 50 more than the next-best pair, and took home $17.5K, while the second-placed (Scoped and Ceice) team pocketed $12.5K.

The Reunion featuring Fortnite notched 811K Hours Watched, 234K Peak Viewers, and 190K Average Viewers over four hours of airtime. It seemingly reached its peak during the start of game one, which was won by the eventual champions.
When it comes to the streamers most associated with these numbers, it was the same trio who were the most successful. Mongraal, DrDisRespect, and Clix were the three most watched and popular channels, in that order. In fact, such was the influence of the content creators steaming this event that the official channel was only the 18th most viewed and 17th most popular among audiences.

Looking at the events organized by BoomTV, The Reunion featuring Fortnite has become its second-most popular competition. Only the Kaysan’s MWII Halloween Showdown did better, and this came at a time when Call of Duty was going through a good phase in terms of in-game content and esports events. More importantly, the list of participants included streaming megastars like Adin Ross, Kai Cenat, xQc, and BruceDropEmOff, whose undoubted fame helped it achieve such high viewership statistics.

In terms of Fortnite events this year, it finished as the third-most popular, behind the FNCS 2023 Global Championship, which saw a renewed push with a new format and more events this year. Another non-esports influencers competition, the Rubius MadCup, is second, thanks to the participation of a bunch of famous content creators, including Rubius, TheGrefg, and ElMariana, who helped it become a hit among Hispanic audiences.

Lastly, when looking at the Fortnite competitions held after the mind-blowing OG update’s release, The Reunion featuring Fortnite is easily the most successful. Of course, it also provided the most prize money and had some highly-fancied participants, but the sheer volume of viewers it attracted bodes well for BoomTV and other organizers in the discipline.
There is no doubt that Epic Games’ legendary sandbox-builder shooter has once again become the talk of the town a few years after it hit its absolute peak. The new season has helped bring back old-time gamers and add new players to its collection, adding to the legacy of a game that sometimes gets excessively underserved criticism due to the high standard it has set for itself. With the tweaked esports season also becoming quite a success, the only way is up for a title many consider the best in its class.
