TikTok hits new esports peak viewership mark at the M7 World Championship

The ongoing M7 World Championship has once again brought to the world's attention the growing stature of TikTok in the esports broadcasting scene. The platform, leveraging its increasing popularity in Southeast Asia and the craze for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in the region, set a new esports record for peak concurrent viewership early in the coveted event's Knockout Stage.

During the playoff Day 1 clash between Indonesian representatives ONIC Esports and Alter Ego, TikTok surpassed the never-before-seen milestone of 2 million Peak Viewers (PV). Led by massive engagement from Indonesian fans, the game eventually peaked at 2.12 million viewers on the platform and 4.8 million PV overall.

It was also a new esports record for Alter Ego, one of the most consistent sides in its region. It may not have the titles to show for its domestic reliability, thanks to the strength of other sides ij the league, but it is always thereabouts when it comes to reaching the latter stages of the circuit. During the above series, the MPL Indonesia Season 16 runner-up touched 4 million Peak Viewers for the very first time.

The first Upper Bracket Quarterfinals game between two favourites for the world title was driven by massive engagement from Indonesian fans. The language contributed over 75% to the above peak live viewers total of 2.12 million, setting a milestone for it on TikTok.

Four of the top five esports matches by peak live viewers on the video-sharing application have come at the ongoing MLBB World Championship. The only exception is the Grand Final of the MPL Indonesia Season 15, where domestic powerhouses ONIC and RRQ Hoshi faced off in a match that also set a  new peak live viewership record for the MPL series.

The Knockout Stage of the biggest event on the annual Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports calendar resumed on January 21 at the Tennis Indoor Stadium Senayan. This double-elimination bracket will see all the matches played in the best-of-five format, apart from the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals (Bo3) and the Grand Final (Bo7).
