Collapse of Sentinels and Sergio Aguero’s Immense Joy — Valorant Champions 2021 Group Stage Overview

Valorant Champions 2021 group stage has come to an end. One of the main surprises of the stage was the early elimination of the Sentinels, the most popular team of the tournament. In the decisive match, they lost to KRÜ Esports, owned by FC Barcelona player Sergio Aguero, who regularly streams the team's matches on Twitch and gathers a large audience. The biggest disappointment for Valorant fans from North America was the early departure of the top two local teams: Sentinels and Team Envy. Both teams lost their decisive matches with the same score of 1:2 and only finished 3rd in their groups. The last hope of North America is Cloud9 Blue, which made it to the main event through the Last Chance Qualifier.

Sentinels member Tyson TenZ Ngo succinctly summed up results of the team: “North American Valorant is dead”. But it depends on how you look at it, right? The team's three matches turned out to be the most popular in the group stage: the games against Liquid and FURIA gathered 715K and 770K viewers at peak, and the decisive game against KRÜ Esports set a new tournament record of 836.9K spectators.

The tournament has already surpassed VCT 2021: Stage 3 Masters Berlin in terms of Peak Viewers and is now ranked second in the discipline, losing only to the Reykjavik Masters with over a million PV. In terms of the total time viewers spend watching matches of the event, Valorant Champions will definitely come out on top in the discipline by the end of the event.

As follows from the statistics of matches, the Sentinels became the most popular team in the group stage in terms of average audience with 607.4K viewers. This is 11% more than the audience of European roster Team Liquid, which came second by this metric (546.7K viewers). Top 3 is closed by the Brazilian team FURIA, whose matches attracted 528.9K spectators on average. Curiously, only one of these three teams made it to the playoffs.

In addition to the official channels, the tournament is actively covered by community broadcasters. The most popular of them during the group stage was shroud with 84.1K spectators during the Sentinels' game against FURIA. This is the second result among all Valorant Champions channels; only the official Twitch broadcast gathered more (212K viewers).

Note that there are also three Spanish-speaking streamers in the top 5. Ibai and TheGrefg tuned in to Valorant Champions during the decisive match of KRÜ Esports to cheer for the team of their friend Sergio Aguero; they brought 80K and 71K viewers to the broadcast, respectively. Note that Serigo himself also made it to the top 5: up to 54.6 thousand people were simultaneously present on his channel (SLAKUN10) during the debut match of KRU.

First playoff matches of Valorant Champions 2021 will take place today. First, Acend will face off against Team Secret, and then the most anticipated match among English-speaking fans will start with Team Liquid playing against Cloud9 Blue.
