VGBootCamp’s Flash Party Spring Open gets games’ esports scene off the ground
Flash Party, a mobile and PC fighting game by XD Games, had its first-ever major tournament, the Spring Open, between April 8 and 9. The competition was held in North America with a $10K prize pool, and it got off to a great start thanks to the participation of some big names.
The Flash Party Spring Open was held in a 1v1 double elimination format, with the finals contested between Lilybunn and MJ. After five riveting rounds, it was the former who came out on top 3:2 to take home $5K and get immortalized in the game as a uniquely customized character that will be out soon.

The game’s first such tournament had 4.4K Peak Viewers, with the maximum contribution coming from Coney’s stream of the matches, at 1.3K PV. He was one of four prominent Smash Bros. pros who competed in the Flash Party Spring Open, with the others being Zain, Void, and Riddles.
The Flash Party Spring Open also notched 24K Hours Watched and 2.6K Average Viewers over an Airtime of nine hours. It was broadcast on Twitch, YouTube, and SteamTV, but most of the viewership came from the purple platform, at 89.09%, thanks to some major names (as mentioned above) streaming the event. In fact, the top five channels by watch hours and average concurrent viewership were all from Twitch.
English was the most popular language, registering almost 100% of the viewership pie, and perhaps with more such competitions happening, the language breakup will become more diverse. Of high interest to audiences was the fact that Twitch drops were enabled for the event, and they continue to be so on the recap video of the whole tournament. The rewards include Easter egg codes that gave in-game items like an Easter egg Hero Banner, Aura Chests, Lucky Coins, and Sticker Fragments.
There is no doubt that an event like this for such a niche game is not going to affect the big-ticket esports tournaments, but the incremental gains made within the game’s streaming ecosystem can’t be ignored. Flash Party saw a gain of 1.88% in its average player base for this month from last thanks to the Spring Open, with the daily player base also going from below 200 to around between 200 and 250.
This might not seem much, but it will be significant in the long run, and with the event being a success, fans can expect more such competitions soon. After all, Flash Party and VGBootCamp have shown enthusiasm on Twitter for future competitions after the Spring Open.
