Most popular tournaments in October 2022

October saw The International 2022, the end of MPL Season 10, as well as the most Worlds 2022 games and the first matches of IEM Rio Major 2022. In a new Esports Charts article, we'll tell you which tournament topped the month's ranking by Peak Viewers, and which events were popular with English-speaking viewers.

MPL Indonesia Season 10 became the most popular tournament in October, attracting nearly 2.4 million Peak Viewers at the Grand Finals between ONIC and RRQ Hoshi. This is the sixth best result in the history of ML:BB tournaments. We should note that MPL ID S10, which lasted more than two months, was also in first place at the end of August and in second place at the end of September.

Worlds 2022 takes second place in the Top of October tournaments. The most popular championship match this month was the semifinal between JD Gaming and T1 — it was watched by more than 2.2 million PV. We should note that the Worlds 2022 Grand Final, held on November 5, drew almost twice as many Peak Viewers and renewed the LoL record. Read more about it in our review.

The International 2022 rounds out the Top 3 tournaments of the month, with 1.75 million PV at the Grand Final between Tundra Esports and Team Secret. It should be noted that this result became one of the lowest in the series in the past few years. Read more about it in our review.

MPL Philippines Season 10 ranks fourth. The tournament's PV number was 829.3K people, reached at the Grand Final between Blacklist International and ECHO. Thus, the tournament has improved its performance compared to the previous season. Read more about MPL PH S10 results here.

IEM Rio Major 2022, which started on October 31, rounds out the Top 5 tournaments of the month. The tournament reached its PV number of 751.5K people on that day at two simultaneous matches — Vitality vs. Imperial and Fnatic vs. Cloud9. The biggest impact on the PV number was made by the match with the Brazilian team. It should be noted that IEM Rio Major 2022 started off better than the previous Major of the season in terms of statistics, but began to lag behind it during the Legends Stage. It was mainly because most of the Brazilian teams were eliminated early from the tournament and FURIA quickly reached the Playoffs.

Worlds 2022 became the most popular tournament with the English-speaking audience in October. The semifinal of the tournament between JD Gaming and T1 was watched by 800.4K PV in the language segment. TI11 is in second place with 744.4K English-speaking Peak Viewers at the Grand Final. MPL ID S10 rounds out the Top 3 with 420.7K English-speaking concurrent viewers watching the decisive game.

IEM Rio Major 2022, which had more than 313.6K PV at Evil Geniuses vs. IHC Esports match, takes fourth place. 

Interestingly, if we had included the statistics of streamer events, Kaysan's MWII Halloween Showdown would have taken the fourth place in the ranking. It drew 341.4K English-speaking Peak Viewers. It should be noted that this CoD: Modern Warfare II event featured such big streamers as AdinRoss, xQc and KaiCenat.

ESL Pro League Season 16, which ended on October 2, rounds out the Top 5. The tournament's decisive match between Team Liquid and Vitality was watched by 269.7K English-speaking Peak Viewers. We should remind you that the tournament became the best in the series by Hours Watched.

Riot Games became the most popular Twitch channel broadcasting esports tournaments in October. The channel reached 543.4K PV this month at the Worlds 2022 semifinal between JD Gaming and T1. dota2ti, the official English-language channel covering The International 2022, ranks second with 381.5K Peak Viewers at the Grand Final.

Gaules, with his broadcast of Intel Extreme Masters Road to Rio 2022: American RMR, rounds out the Top 3. It drew 347.2K PV at the qualifying match between Complexity and Imperial for the Major. dota2ti_ru, the official Russian-language TI11 coverage channel, takes fourth place with 285.5K PV at the Grand Final. The Top 5 is rounded out by LCK_Korea, where the Worlds 2022 semifinal (JD Gaming vs. T1) was watched by 274.5K Peak Viewers.

It is worth mentioning that if we had taken into account the streamer event statistics, the fourth place would have been taken by Ibai with the Pokemon TwitchCup 2 tournament broadcast (292K PV). This event featured popular Hispanic streamers including IlloJuan, elxokas and TheGrefg.
