RLCS 2024 Major 1 becomes second most popular Rocket League event ever

The RLCS 2024 - Major 1 marked the first global LAN of the discipline’s 2024 esports circuit. Expectations were high after 413K PV tuned in to the EU Open Qualifier 1, and the Major 1 itself reached 434.7K Peak Viewers for its French derby semifinal. 

Two teams were critical for the high European qualifier viewership: Karmine Corp and Gentle Mates Alpine. French content creators founded both teams and they support their teams through community casts of their matches. Ex-professional Call of Duty esports player and streamer Gotaga is one of the three owners of Gentle Mates, and his support boosted his team to the top. The same can be said of Kamet0, president and co-owner of Karmine Corp, who went live for his team's most important matches.

These two were crucial to the event’s viewership, bringing the Major 1 event to the pinnacle of Rocket League esports. Without their support and their teams’ participation, the event would have been much less successful.

RLCS 2024 Major 1 Viewership Statistics

In total, the first Major event of the year received 4.86M Hours Watched across four days of matches. The event was relatively short compared to other major international tournaments across other disciplines; it was broadcast for just over 30 hours, whereas the recent Masters Valorant event broke 50 hours live, and the just-finished Counter-Strike Major was live for over 105 hours. 

Affirming that the event was heavily boosted by French audiences, the most popular language of the tournament was French, and the top five most popular matches all included French organisations. The event reached its peak of 434.7K PV for the semifinal match between Karmine Corp and Gentle Mates Alpine: a majority of the peak viewership achieved was contributed by Gotaga’s and Kamet0’s personal Twitch channels.

The odd match out remains G2 Stride’s semifinal against Team Vitality. Team Vitality is a French esports organisation fielding 3 French players for Rocket League, and their participation in this semifinals ensured that French-language viewership was high for the match. However, official broadcasts received higher concurrent viewership than community casters for this match: the only match to experience this in our top five.

The RLCS 2024 - Major 1 tournament became Rocket League’s second most popular tournament ever. It lags just behind last year’s World Championship, which was also made more popular by the attendance of Karmine Corp.

The French community within Rocket League is becoming the leading demographic for the esports discipline, and this was all achieved on the shoulders of Karmine Corp, Gentle Mates Alpine, and Team Vitality. 

The French community has been a critical part of Rocket League’s viewership for years, but it has only recently become the leading demographic of the discipline. With the help of streamer-backed organisations, Rocket League is more popular than ever.
