Arena of Valor Premier League 2023 set several records and became the most popular tournament in the history of the discipline

July 23 marked the end of the Arena of Valor Premier League 2023, a mid-season event held in Bangkok with a prize pool of $500K. The championship was marked by several viewership records: not only has it become the most popular tournament in the history of the discipline, but it also has significantly improved the viewership performance of the game on YouTube and TikTok.

The best teams from four national leagues participated in the AoV Premier League: Arena of Glory (Vietnam), Garena Challenger (Taiwan), RoV Pro League (Thailand), and AoV Star League (Indonesia). In total, 14 teams participated in the tournament, having qualified both directly from the national leagues and through the Wild Card qualification.

In the final match, Saigon Phantom (Vietnam) defeated Bacon Time (Thailand) with a score of 4:1. Interestingly, last year, the same teams played in the AoV Premier League 2022 finals, and back then Bacon Time became the champion winning the decisive match with the same score.

Arena of Valor Premier League 2023 matches scored 28.3M Hours Watched. The most popular series of the tournament was the grand final between Saigon Phantom and Bacon Time, which amassed 974K Peak Viewers. It should be noted that there was a twofold difference between the most popular series in the top 5: the broadcast viewership increased dramatically in the final days of the tournament. For comparison, the Peak Viewers mark reached during the group stage was just over 300K viewers.

The top 3 most popular teams of the tournament were representatives of Vietnam and Thailand. The difference between the leaders in terms of the Average Viewers turned out to be minimal, but the difference between the first and fifth teams was more than 100K viewers.

A total of 40 unique channels covered AoV Premier League 2023 matches, including community casters. The most popular broadcast languages were Vietnamese and Thai. Over 72% of the tournament’s total Hours Watched were generated by YouTube viewers.

AoV Premier League 2023 turned out to be the most popular tournament in the history of the entire discipline. The previous Peak Viewers record, which was held for a year and a half, has been improved by 4%. 

AoV Premier League 2023 also set several platform records. For example, YouTube reached the mark of 700K Peak Viewers, which is the best result for the discipline since 2019 (during the Arena of Valor World Cup 2019, this figure reached 676.2K viewers).

TikTok reached the mark of about 160K Peak Viewers, which is four times more than the previous record of the discipline. For the same platform, language records were set as well — for Vietnamese (grew from 41.7K to 124K) and Thai (grew from 24.7K to 33.2K). The tournament also set a discipline record for broadcasts on Facebook in Indonesian, growing from 5.6K to 8K Peak Viewers.

Arena of Valor is showing good growth and attempts to rival Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in reaching SEA audience. Discipline grows its audience by expanding to new platforms, including TikTok.

Before the end of the year, several more major Arena of Valor tournaments will take place. From August to October, Arena of Glory Winter 2023 will be held in Vietnam, and alongside it, Honor of Kings Brazil Championship 2023 will be held in Brazil. Finally, December 30 marks the start of Honor of Kings International Championship 2023, the main tournament of the year and the final tournament of the season with a prize pool of $10M.
