Comparison of the most popular esports tornaments for the last half year

We could observe a huge number of tournaments for all esports disciplines over the past six months. Kings of the industry obviously are Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends. We decided to compare the three largest tournaments of 2017 to find out which discipline is the most popular.

League of Legends always gathers a huge audience of viewers. 2017 Mid-Season Invitational has overtaken The International 2017 and PGL Major Krakow, and, what is most important, 2017 Mid-Season Invitational is not the biggest LoL event of the year - Worlds 2017 are going to attract much more viewers at autumn. Nevertheless, it is extremely amusing that the whole world is watching the League of Legends, except for the Russian-speaking region.The number viewers from the CIS at 2017 Mid-Season Invitational was minimal, and we do not think that things will change radically at Worlds 2017

The International 2017 beat a lot of records this year. This tournament had the biggest prize pool in a history of esports — almost $25 millions. The International 2017 also set a new record of online viewers in history of Dota 2 broadcasting. This happened because of the unexpected domination of Chinese teams, they showed and incredible playstyle and fresh tactical ideas, which helped them overtake western teams. Although European organization Team Liquid won the tournament, there are three Chinese teams on the top 4.

According to our statistics Counter Strike: Global Offensive is not very popular discipline in China. In other hand the whole non-Chinese world love shooter from Valve. PGL Major Krakow gathered more Western viewers than The International 2017 or 2017 Mid-Season Invitational.
