WCS Fall: Serral comes first once again

The autumn stop of the World Championship Series has ended. The victory went to the current world champion: Serral – while silver was taken by his well-known vis-a-vis, Reynor.

Earlier we have talked about the previous two offline stops of the Starcraft 2 competitive system. They took place in the Ukrainian capital, and StarLadder became the organizer of the tournaments. The article with the respective statistics is available at this link.

Overall, the main event of the autumn repeated the current trend. The championship has worsened the result (as compared to the previous championship). WCS Fall 2019 is currently the worst championship of these three.

The event has gathered 22 thousand average viewers. The difference with the summer stop was 3 thousand people. This is also 8 thousand less that at the spring tournament.

The peak viewers mark also showed a negative result. Compared to WCS Summer 2019, this mark has fell by 10 thousand viewers. The series has already lost even more viewers since spring, with the indicator showing a decrease of a little more than 15 thousand people.

The hours watched of this competition have reached the mark of 670 thousand – which can be compared to 778 thousand hours achieved in summer, and to 920 thousand hours achieved during spring. As such, the decrease shown by the main tournament of the autumn was 13% compared to WCS Summer and 27% compared to WCS Spring.

The situation regarding the popularity of players also develops in an interesting way. But first, we should note that the ranking was compiled based on the average viewers per match. HeRoMaRinE was the most popular participant of the autumn tournament. Serral scored the second place, and Reynor closed the top 3.

As can be understood from the data, the audience’s interest in the series is gradually declining. It is quite difficult to pinpoint any specific problem as a reason for this. The game itself is no longer attracting a new audience, and it seems that the current fans of the strategy aren't quite fond of it either.

However, part of the blame lies upon some of the individuals who have reached the top of the ranking. At the same time, as the World Cup grows more and more near, a list of its participants starts taking shape as well. In the end, all of this and much more ends up negatively affecting the World Championship Series.
