AWC 2024 Season 4 cups maintain recent viewership gains ahead of Global Finals
The new season for World of Warcraft — 2024 Dragonflight Season 4 Arena World Championship — kicked off at the start of this month. It has now seen four events held, two each in the Europe and North America regions, with the top four sides from each side making it to their Grand Finals.
These events did much better than their corresponding tournaments from 2023, continuing the beloved game's resurgence over the past two years. Blizzard Entertainment will now hope that this momentum continues during the AWC 2024 Season 4 EU Grand Finals and the AWC 2024 Season 4 NA Grand Finals, where $300,000 will be up for grabs.

The viewership figures across the four WoW tournaments were remarkably similar, with the AWC 2024 Season 4 EU Cup 3 earning the highest peak viewership at almost 27K concurrent viewers. It was also the most viewed event, hitting 169.5K Hours Watched over 9 hours and 20 minutes of airtime.
Looking at the last two cups held during Season 2, the most popular event hit 23.8K Peak Viewers while the most watched one had 179.4K HW. The latter figure was only higher as the broadcast time was almost 90 minutes more.
However, readers must note that Season 3's viewership stats were much higher, with the AWC 2024 Season 3 NA Cup 1 reaching 227.2K HW and the AWC 2024 Season 3 EU Cup 1 touching 36.5K PV. This came on the back of a highly successful Race to World First: Amirdrassil The Dreams Hope, the game's most popular event to date, and was followed by the Mythic Dungeon International 2024, the series' most popular tournament in six years.

As mentioned, World of Warcraft has been undergoing a renaissance in live streaming, with involvement from popular content creators like sodapoppin and Maximum helping its cause. That has also helped the esports side continue to grow and evolve, helping retain a viewer base that has remained loyal to the game across decades.
WoW has especially been popular on Twitch, where such classic titles have found a home thanks to the efforts of fans turned star streamers like Asmongold and EsfandTV. That is why its official channel on this streaming service has been the dominant one in terms of attracting viewers to the various competitions on offer across the yearly calendar.

This recent rebirth has also meant that two of the game's five most popular events have come in 2023, with the other one being the OTK Hardcore Mak'gora Tournament. The MDI 2024 has continued that trend into the current year making the all-time leaderboards for watch time and peak concurrent viewership.
The EU and NA Global Finals will be preceded by the Gauntlet phase, a sort of last-chance qualifier where one last side can join the three already-qualified sides in the Dragonflight Grand Finals. Blizzard Entertainment will hope that the qualified sides can put on the best show possible and end the season on a high.
