Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major Qualifiers sees least peak viewers over the past two seasons
The Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major Qualifiers concluded on March 17 after around a month of online action. Its viewership figures could not match those set during the qualifiers of the first Major, meaning the main event will probably have a tough time matching the momentum earned by its predecessor. Moreover, the peak viewership figures were the lowest for any Major qualifier over the past two seasons.
The Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major Qualifiers saw 12 teams battle it out for Call of Duty League points and higher seedings at the Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major. At the end of the tournament, it was OpTic Texas that finished first with an unbeaten 7-0 record, with its last pool game against New York Subliners deciding who would top the table and finish without a loss.

152.8K Peak Viewers during the Week 4, Day 3 clash between OpTic Texas and Toronto Ultra. This was 10.5% less than the Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 1 Major Qualifiers, which itself saw decreases in concurrent viewership due to a few reasons.
The Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major Qualifiers also recorded 4.3 Hours Watched and 71K Average Viewers over 62 hours of airtime. The higher airtime in comparison to the Major qualifiers held in 2023 was a result of the changed format for the Group Stage, where teams play more games.

Compared to the qualifiers of the first Major this year, its watch time decreased by 8.2% and the average viewership fell by 9.6%. While the former figure is still higher than anything posted by qualifiers in 2023, the fact that it has dropped from the first one in 2024 points to audiences still adjusting to the new format and platform and that their favorite streamers are on YouTube and not Twitch.
Moreover, with the return of live streams on the Google-owned platform, the number of channels co-casting this competition has reduced. In fact, Scump and ZooMaa Live covering the action was a big reason for the numbers reaching what they did, and they continued to be the most successful streamers for Call of Duty esports.

This again shows that while the Call of Duty League wants to transition its co-streaming model from Twitch to YouTube, audiences still need to be ready for that change. This is despite famous names moving over, with many viewers still using Twitch to listen in on the action, as video broadcasts are not allowed.
However, compared to the previous full year when broadcasts were YouTube exclusive (2022), audience numbers remain higher in 2024. Thus, while there is a certain pushback regarding changes to the format and broadcasting structure, there are a lot more Call of Duty viewers watching the product.
Lastly, with the Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 1 Major doing business, the hope will be that the main event of the second Major will follow along the same lines. Eventually, the quality of action and popularity of the teams and the discipline will help the league return nearer to the numbers posted last year.
The Call of Duty League 2024: Stage 2 Major will be held from March 21 to 24 at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This S-Tier tournament will see the 12 sides battle it out for the tag of Major winners, with tickets purchasable here.
