Fortnite reveals new in-game watch party arena for Rocket League
Fortnite developer Epic Games has revealed a new Rocket League integration which will allow fans to watch Rocket League esports directly through the game.
With Rocket League Live, Fortnite players will be able to host watch parties for esports competitions in the game’s creative mode, including the RLCS Winter Major, set to take place from March 23rd - 27th.
For the occasion, Fortnite has worked together with Fortnite Creative designers 404FNC and FiveWalves to build the Champions Field, an arena within Fortnite Creative game mode where it’ll be possible to watch the RLCS Winter Major. Moreover, the arena will also include other features such as loot, minigames, the “Boost Meter” and an option to pick players’ favourite team.
According to Fortnite’s Twitter statement, this marks only the beginning of plans with Rocket League Live, with more to come as the RLCS season progresses.
Since the official Rocket League esports circuit has been seeing notable growth in terms of viewership throughout the 2021-22 season, the upcoming, season-concluding Winter Major is expected to reach exceptional viewership numbers, invigorated by Fortnite spectators.
The event's lineup features 15 of the world's best Rocket League teams, namely The General NRG, G2 Esports, FaZe Clan, Version1, Spacestation Gaming, Team Queso, Dignitas, Team BDS, EndpointCeX, Evil Geniuses, Renegades, Pioneers, Team Secret, FURIA Esports and DeToNator.
Known for hosting live in-game events, often in partnership with various brands, organizations and artists, Fortnite previously hosted countless live events, including concerts of popular music artists such as Ariana Grande or Marshmello.
The new Rocket League integration move comes after Epic Games temporarily removed building mechanics from the default game mode as a part of the game’s new season.
