Last week, the final participants for IEM Sydney 2023 (CS:GO) were determined. Winners of the four regional qualifications held in Europe, North America, Asia, and Oceania were added to the previously invited teams. Despite the fact that the qualifiers were held on the same dates, the participants of the European qualification gathered the most viewers.

The Intel Extreme Masters series had many tournaments in Sydney in the past, and each time these events were noted for their unique atmosphere. Australia has never had a truly top-tier CS:GO team, but local fans are well-known as some of the noisiest (in a good way) and most active in esports events. IEM Sydney 2023 will be the first tier-S tournament that the country-continent will host after the pandemic. CS:GO will return to Sydney, much to the joy of the local fans. The strongest teams from around the world will compete, including Team VitalityG2 EsportsENCENatus Vincere, and other teams.

Most participants in IEM Sydney 2023 received direct invitations to the tournament. Others received slots based on their position in the ESL World Ranking. In addition to this, the tournament will feature the winners of the four regional qualifications — Apeks and BetBoom Team (from Europe), Complexity Gaming (from North America), Lynn Vision Gaming (from Asia), and VERTEX Esports Club (from Oceania).

The European qualification for IEM Sydney 2023 amassed nearly 800K Hours Watched. During the broadcast, the games had 37.6K Average Viewers and 71.3K Peak Viewers. Several strong teams participated in these qualifiers, with performances in majors under their belts. For instance, teams like Ninjas in Pyjamas, 9INE, OG, and others. Interestingly, this region was the only one where two slots for the tournament were up for grabs, which were ultimately secured by Apeks and BetBoom Team.

The North American qualification results were comparatively modest, likely due to the participation of only four teams — 8.2K Average Viewers and 20.2K Peak Viewers. The match between Complexity Gaming and Forsaken in the lower bracket finals garnered the largest audience during qualification.

In the Oceanic and Asian qualifiers, only four teams took part in each. Half of them were directly invited by the organizers, while the rest came from open qualifiers. The audience reach in these regions was even lower than in North America — 8K and 12.3K Peak Viewers respectively. The average viewership in both regions was quite similar, just over 4K Average Viewers. Unexpectedly, The MongolZ, a frequent participant in international tournaments, stumbled and lost to two teams from China.

Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2023 will take place from October 16th to 22nd in Australia. The grand stage will be the Aware Super Theatre. The total prize pool for the tournament will be $250K. Sixteen teams from around the world will compete for these prizes.
