Riot Games’ Inkborn Fables Tactician’s Crown set a new 2024 viewership milestone for TFT
Inkborn Fables Tactician's Crown was the second major Teamfight Tactics event of 2024 that was officially organized by the game’s developers, Riot Games. The event quickly generated a large audience for the auto battler, and received well over 1.21M Hours Watched. It became the most popular TFT event of 2024 by concurrent viewership, with 149.5K concurrent viewers recorded at peak.
The tournament invited 8 participants from the game’s major regions: Americas, EMEA, APAC, and China. With $456K,000 in the line in the prize pool, the event attracted the world’s best to compete on the global stage. After a Swiss Stage on July 12 and 13, the event advanced to an eight-player Grand Final on July 14, with a maximum of 8 games to be played until a player reaches 20 points. American competitor Dishsoap quickly dispatched the competition, achieving 31 points in only 5 rounds.

The final Round 5 of the Grand Final was where the event reached its peak viewership, and notably the most popular platform was twitch and the most popular language was French. This was due to popular French livestreamer and content creator Kamet0 covering the event on his Twitch channel. The French streamer created the esports organization Karmine Corp, whose TFT player Double61 finished the tournament in second place, only 2 points behind the winner Dishsoap.
Aside from this large French audience cheering for Double61, the event was also highly watched by English-speaking and Vietnamese audiences. Although these three audiences were the most influential of the event, they only accounted for 66.6% of the event’s total watch time. This highlights the largely global audience for TFT, which is not restricted to one region in terms of popularity.

Not only was this Inkborn Fables event the most popular event of 2024, but it was also the third-most popular TFT event ever. The viewership of the event fell slightly behind the most popular event of 2023, the Runeterra Reforged Championship. Last year’s event received 158K PV, but TFT still has the TFT Macao Open coming this December. The event will bring over 500 TFT players together to compete for the $304,900 prize pool, and could be highly watched depending on which players attend.
The most popular TFT event ever remains the Twitch Rivals Teamfight Tactics Showdown. In smaller esports disciplines, a Twitch Rivals event can often become the game’s most popular event ever, as it applies viewership from various large fanbases of livestreaming personalities, rather than relying on the game’s competitive viewership.
The Twitch Rivals event in 2019 generated over 300K Peak Viewers, thanks to the participation and streams of industry-leading creators such as DisguisedToast, Ibai, and many more. If TFT is to beat this viewership record, either its esports scene’s viewership must grow considerably, or it must once again tap into the power of integrating livestreaming personalities into their broadcasts and viewership.
Teamfight Tactics is not Riot Games’ most popular esports venture to date, but the game has found a sizable esports viewership for itself, with remaining stable compared to last year, and even growing significantly compared to viewership since 2020.
