The International 2023 Group Stage attracts more concurrent viewers than last year
On the night of October 15-16, the Group Stage of The International 2023, the main Dota 2 tournament of the year, ended. The four participants have already been eliminated from the event, while the remaining sixteen teams will continue to compete in the Playoffs. Esports Charts breaks down intermediate viewership results of the event and names the most popular match of the stage.

Team SMG, PSG Quest, Thunder Awaken, and beastcoast were unable to secure a single victory against their opponents in the Group Stage and were the first to be eliminated. The remaining participants continued their battle in the tiebreaker matches, determining their seeding in the Playoffs bracket. Unexpected outcomes included Talon Esports defeating Gaimin Gladiators, and the reigning world champion, Tundra Esports, losing a series against nouns. The battle between 9Pandas and BetBoom Team — which saw the latter come out on top — was also very exciting.
The International 2023 Group Stage viewership statistics
The International 2023's Group Stage saw 748.7K PV. This record was set on the first day of the tournament when there were multiple parallel streams. It is worth mentioning that last year's Group Stage had fewer than 700K Peak Viewers.
The series between Shopify Rebellion and Team Spirit was the most watched match of the stage. This match determined which team would advance to the upper bracket of the Playoffs. In the end, Team Spirit emerged victorious with a score of 2-0, over 708.8K PV watched this match.
The most popular language for broadcasts in the Group Stage was Russian, reaching over 384K Peak Viewers. As for platform distribution, the PV number on Twitch was approximately four times higher than that of the closest competitor.
The International 2023 Playoffs
The Playoffs of The International 2023 will take place from October 12 to October 29. The first half of the games will be hosted at the Seattle Convention Center's Summit, while the final battles will take place at the Climate Pledge Arena. Currently, the prize pool for the tournament is slightly over $3 million, but this amount gradually increases as players and viewers purchase the tournament's Battle Pass.
