New League of Legends competitive season has started; following the Spanish Superliga, the spring split kicked off in LFL. The French scene made quite a stir during the off-season, when the league’s most popular team Karmine Corp signed former Fnatic and G2 Esports star Martin Rekkles Larsson. And this team gathered a record audience of series in the second set of Week 1 matches.
Before LFL Spring 2022, a record by viewers within the series was held by last season’s spring split, which was a debut for Karmine Corp in the upper division of the local French league. Its match against the second most watched team of the tournament Solary peaked at 194.9K spectators during Week 5.
The record in the new season was expected during the first set of matches, when Karmine faced Misfits Premier. KC won in Rekkles first pro match for the team: yet this game only attracted 180K Peak Viewers. The record was set in kamet0's team match against Mirage Elyandra; KC lost but the game peaked at 201.6K viewers.
Just like the Spanish league, LFL reached a new record by viewers mainly thanks to the popular streamer. During a record-breaking game the audience of kamet0’s channel peaked at 77.4K viewers. Note that the official OTP Twitch channel had almost 118K Peak Viewers during the KC vs ME game.
Summing up the results of Week 1, the French league has started a bit more successfully compared to the Spanish Superliga. Average number of LFL viewers was 60% more than LVP, yet by the peak number the difference was only 3%.
Note that LVP Superliga was a bit behind LFL due to Spanish viewers being less active on the second day of matches. Ibai covered both matches of his team KOI, but his audience during the second match was about 30% less compared to pro debut of the team. All this also affected the overall league's statistics.
