May was quite a busy esports month, as major international championships took place in several leading disciplines at once, attracting hundreds of fans to venues and millions of people to broadcasts. Although PC disciplines were the leaders among games, three mobile titles also made it into the top ten, two of which were part of the large sports competition SEA Games 2023, which brings together eleven countries of Southeast Asia.

The most popular esports discipline in May was League of Legends, which hosted the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, one of the two largest international tournaments of the year in the game. It’s the only competition to attract over 2 million concurrent viewers, including hundreds of thousands of viewers from Europe, North America, Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam.

In second place is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with 1.5 million concurrent viewers, all thanks to the only Valve-sponsored tournament this year, BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. This is the last major in the game before its full transition to the Source 2 engine, after which the game will be called Counter-Strike 2.
Mobile games Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile are in 3rd-4th places. In both cases, the most popular tournament was esports competition of Cambodia 2023 Southeast Asian Games, a major sports event of the region. Both games had the largest audience in Indonesia.
There were no international championships in Valorant in May, but even so, the discipline managed to get ahead of Dota 2, which had the major event ESL One Berlin Major 2023. VCT 2023: Americas League managed to gather 50K more concurrent viewers at its peak than the ESL's championship final attracted.
The third mobile game in the ranking is Arena of Valor, an international adaptation of Chinese mega-hit Honor of Kings. In May, the largest audience was attracted by the Vietnamese national league Arena of Glory, namely the matches of fan favorites, Saigon Phantom and V Gaming.
Apex Legends made it to the rating thanks to a Japanese competitive show event organized by UUUM and sponsored by Electronic Arts. Apex Festival Spin-off Super 3 was attended by eminent esports players from Japan, other countries in Asia, and even Europe. In terms of viewership, it managed to get ahead of the Apex Legends Global Series regional events.
The return to Twitch improved the Call of Duty League's audience figures: it was thanks to the fifth and final major of the season that Call of Duty took the ninth spot in esports games rating (even though it was far from being the most popular event of the season).
Fortnite rounded out the top 10, the game saw the Fortnite Champion Series Season 15 major tournaments held in May. The largest audience was attracted by the European competition, which was also a qualifier for the October FNCS 2023 Global Championship with a prize pool of $4 million. Interestingly, Fortnite was not far ahead of other popular esports disciplines, including Rocket League and Teamfight Tactics.
