Forced replay of matches & first elimination — MSI 2022 day 4 overview

Forced replay of matches & first elimination — MSI 2022 day 4 overview

May 13, 2022 3 dakika okuma

On May 13, the last games in Group B were supposed to take place at MSI 2022, but it suddenly became known that the first three matches of Royal Never Give Up would be replayed. Now the last games of the group will take place tomorrow, but the first participant, which lost the chances to go to the Knockout Stage, has already been determined. Esports Charts tells what happened and how many spectators today's matches gathered.

The situation around Royal Never Give Up and the nuances of their participation in the tournament caused controversy in the community even before the start of the tournament. Due to another outbreak of coronavirus in China, the LPL Spring 2022 champion could not fly to Korea. As a result, the organizers allowed the team to participate in the tournament remotely (the championship is held in Korea, so it was possible): however, it turned out that in this way their rivals in the group would be infringed.

All teams were supposed to play on servers with 35 ms ping, so that all teams have the same latency as the RNG. However, today Alex Francois, Global Head of Competitive Operations in Riot Games, basically confirmed that the latency was higher than initially expected by the organizers, so first three games of RNG would be replayed on May 14.

Be that as it may, even despite the reset of the first meetings, it is unlikely that Royal Never Give Up will miss the first place in the B quartet. On the fourth day of the tournament, the Chinese team still confidently dealt with their rivals in the group, ending the day with a 3:0 score.

Head-to-head matches of the opponents of the Chinese team aroused much greater sports interest, because PSG Talon and RED Canids are actively fighting for the second place in the group. Both teams beat İstanbul Wildcats, and the squad from Hong Kong turned out to be stronger in the face-to-face confrontation. Thus, PSG Talon is now more likely to advance to the next stage. In turn, the champions of the Turkish league were the first to leave the tournament.

Considering viewership statistics, the game day cannot be called successful. Viewers spent a little more than 1.9 million hours watching matches with an average audience of 327K people. The peak of viewers was almost 557K, and the most popular match was PSG Talon vs. Royal Never Give Up.

The replays in Group B will take place tomorrow, and RNG can secure a slot in the Knockout Stage after the first game, where she will face an unmotivated IW. In addition, tomorrow we will also find out which teams will advance to the next stage from Group C, where the clear favorites are G2 Esports and Evil Geniuses.
