Sep 20, 2022 3 dakika okuma

Smash Ultimate Summit 5 ended last Sunday. The major tournament, which was organized by Beyond The Summit, happened from the 15th of September until the 18th. It had sixteen of the best players in the world attending the event, and some big upsets happened during it. The event took place in Los Angeles, and ten of the sixteen participants that attended the event were invited. Smash Ultimate Summit 5 had a prize pool of $17K.

The winner of the event was Japanese e-athlete ProtoBanham, who defeated American representative Light in a very close grand final. However, probably the biggest surprise of the event was Mexican participant MKLeo, who has dominated this year but didn't manage to make it to the top eighth. MKLeo was eliminated in the second round of the losers bracket by TSM player Tweek. This is only the second time that MKLeo didn't make the top eight in an event in the past two years.

Viewership Stats

When it comes to viewership numbers, Smash Ultimate Summit 5 managed to break records. With 134K Peak Viewers, it became the most popular Super Smash Bros tournament ever organized by Beyond The Summit. The event was broadcasted for 44 hours, and viewers watched the tournament for 2.2 million hours, making it also the most watched event in this series. It also had a great number of Average Viewers, with 51K AV. These numbers represent just how much of a success this event was. Its clear viewers were interested in the event, mostly because of the big-name participants that attended it.

Smash Ultimate Summit 5 had a lot of great matches. As mentioned above the tournament was full of super talented players, which made every single match very interesting. However, no other match was more interesting for the viewers than the grand final between ProtoBanham and Light. 134K simultaneous viewers watched the grand final of the event, where ProtoBanham was crowned the winner.

Acola and Tweek had the second most popular match of the event, with 130K Peak Viewers, tuning in to see their confrontation. This was a due-or-die game for both contestants, and Tweek had eliminated MKLeo from the tournament in the previous match, making this game even more interesting. The game between Kola and ProtoBanham was the third most popular of the tournament with 128K Peak Viewers. It was the first playoff match, and the winner of this would move directly to the grand final, which increased the importance of the match, and made viewers even more interested in it.

Light might not have won the championship, but he shows in three of the most popular matches of the tournament (the most from any player at the event), with all those matches happening in the playoffs stage, and all being elimination games. There is no denying that he was one of the most popular players at the event.

The Smash Ultimate Summit 5 was a very successful event, and one that shows that Super Smash Bros has a bright future ahead. With such great viewership numbers, we can surely expect more similar events from Beyond The Summit in the near future.
