Squid Craft 2 overlap with esports events puts focus on scheduling

The esports industry relies on a constant turnover of tournaments and events to keep fans and teams engaged and active across the board. However, with so many disciplines looking to host competitions on a daily basis, and with many streamer-based events also taking up a chunk of the calendar, it can be hard to get a slot just for one tournament at one point and for organizers to plan them properly.

This is what was seen at the recent Twitch Rivals Squid Craft Games 2 (Survival Cup), organized by Spanish Twitch megastars El Rubius and Ibai Llanos. Hispanic viewers, who make up a majority of the audience for this competition, were torn between multiple events happening at the same time and ended up watching them all, resulting in declining viewerships for all tournaments involved.

Three major competitions from Valorant, CS:GO, and Dota 2 were held at the same time as Squid Craft 2  The events that overlapped most with Squid Craft 2

This basically means that these events were eating at the viewerships of each other, ensuring none came out the better. This was especially true of major competitions from three games — Valorant, CS:GO, and Dota 2 — which were being held at the same time as Squid Craft 2.

62.16% of one of Valorant’s prime shows for the year, the Valorant Champions Tour LOCK//IN, had its Spanish-speaking audience also watching Squid Craft 2, while 52.00% of the premier CS:GO competition, ESL Pro League Season 17, saw its Hispanic viewers alternating between this competition and Squid Craft 2. One of Dota 2’s biggest events, The Lima Major, witnessed 34.42% of its watchers who speak Spanish do the same when both were live on air, leading to a scattering of stats across the board.

These are massive numbers to be losing for any competition, proving that streamer events are also actively watched by esports audiences and vice versa. Thus, the organizers of such tournaments must plan better to synchronize the calendar so there’s no huge overlap in terms of tournament scheduling, ultimately saving their viewership numbers from plummeting by ensuring they have the audiences' rapturous attention all to themselves.
