VCT 2026 Pacific’s viewership dominance slips — Stage 1 opening match drew 37.5% fewer Peak Viewers year-on-year

The VCT 2026 Pacific Stage 1 is officially underway. After weeks of anticipation following Valorant Masters Santiago 2026, the league returned with two Group Stage openers. The numbers, however, told a story of falling viewership, with peaks unable to match the standards set last year. 

While the Pacific circuit recently experienced the highs Valorant esports has to offer at Masters Santiago, the day one matches of the circuit failed to attract the usual attention the league is known for. Japanese audiences in particular remained quite low this year, with 2025’s opening game featuring ZETA DIVISION having done far more to engage this audience. 

How many viewers tuned in for day one off the VCT 2026 Pacific Stage 1?

The first match of VCT 2026 Pacific Stage 1 saw Gen.G Esports face off against Global Esports, with GE claiming a perhaps surprising 2:0 victory over the Korean side. The match drew a peak of 151,155 concurrent viewers — a figure that, while not negligible for a regular season opener, sits well below what Pacific audiences have historically delivered on Day 1. For GE, the result will be a welcome confidence boost following poor results throughout last year’s VCT events and 2026’s Kickoff.

The second match of the day brought T1 onto the stage against VARREL, the newly-joined Japanese organisation making their Stage 1 debut. At the end of 2025, VARREL acquired the roster of SLT — the 2025 Pacific Ascension winners — and their match against T1 attracted a decent viewership of Japanese viewers. T1 was able to dispatch VARREL 2:0, yet despite T1’s popularity and the presence of a Japanese team, the match peaked at just over 146,000 Peak Viewers. 

Last year, the opening for the VCT 2025 Pacific was able to reach over 220,000 Peak Viewers for both of its matches, and the most popular game of the day — ZETA DIVISION vs T1 — peaked at over 242,000 PV. This puts 2026’s opening day figure roughly 37.5% below last year’s result  — a significant year-on-year decline for a region that had long been the most-watched in the VCT ecosystem outside of international events.

How does the VCT Pacific compare to EMEA in 2026?

VCT 2026 EMEA Stage 1 also opened its doors this week, and its headline match — Fnatic vs Eternal Fire — peaked at over 153,000 PV, narrowly edging out both Pacific Day 1 matches. The two circuits are now essentially neck and neck in terms of opening-day pull, a remarkable shift from just a year ago when Pacific commanded a noticeably larger audience ceiling. EMEA's strong showing, anchored by Fnatic's enormous European fanbase, demonstrates that the gap between the two regions continues to narrow.

Stage 1 runs until May 17, with the Group Stage concluding on May 3 before Playoffs begin in Ho Chi Minh City. There are significantly more compelling viewership matchups still to come: Nongshim RedForce, fresh off their Masters Santiago championship and carrying a historic unbeaten run, will be the team to watch for peak audience spikes as the weeks progress. Paper Rex, who reached the grand final and remain one of the most-watched franchises in competitive VALORANT, will also likely lift numbers whenever they take the stage. A fixture involving either of those two teams — or better still, the two of them against each other — will be the real test of where Pacific viewership stands in 2026.
