Activision looks to gain as partnership with ESL for Call of Duty Mobile esports across 2023-2024 announced

It was recently announced that Activision will partner with ESL to host Call of Duty Mobile esports competitions for the next two years. Considering the game’s viewership performances over the past two years and the German organizer’s excellent record with mobile esports, it stands to reason that the former will gain massively from this association.

  The 2023-2024 season roadmap for Call of Duty Mobile esports   

This collaboration will see two main events — the World Championship and the Snapdragon Mobile Masters, while the 2023 season will have a total prize pool of $1.5 million. The former tournament will be worth $1 million, while the latter will hand out $200K to participants. This does mean the overall cash reward for the fourth World Championship is lesser than the previous iteration.

COD Mobile events have tailed off recently after a strong start to life for the game and its esports scene back in 2019. As a result, Activision has been unable to pull in audience numbers that befit a series of its standing, with only two events of this smartphone edition making it to the top ten of most popular competitions of all time since 2022.

However, that is where ESL can come in, for it is not only a proven success in terms of organizing some of the biggest esports events in the world but also mobile esports competitions. The company has been involved in hosting PUBG Mobile esports for a while now, and the success of these tournaments, including in viewership, speaks for itself.

The most successful competition for ESL in mobile esports remains the PUBG Mobile World League 2020 East, which did a whopping 1.15M Peak Viewers. The rest of the events in the table also have had much higher peak concurrent viewership numbers than any mobile esports tournament Activision has ever held. Most importantly, many of these entries are pretty recent, spread across 2021 and 2022.

The action toward qualification for the Call of Duty Mobile World Championship Finals 2023 will get underway on April 27. After four stages, the 16 best teams from all competing regions will seal their berths in the Grand Finale scheduled sometime in December 2023. The format, prize pool, and schedule will be revealed at a later date.
