Los Ratones secure EMEA Masters title as event peak viewership declines to 277,000 concurrent viewers

EMEA Masters Spring 2025, the second cross-regional tournament of the European tier-two League of Legends season, has wrapped up. With twice as many teams as its winter counterpart, the event once again saw Los Ratones, this season’s breakout juggernaut, claim the title. Despite the team still drawing a sizable audience, the buzz has noticeably faded, and this edition fell behind the winter tournament across the board.

Held online from June 3 to 21, the tournament brought together the top squads from the EMEA Regional Leagues. As in past editions, the skill gap across the ERL ecosystem was evident: by the quarterfinals, just four of the thirteen leagues remained in the race: Spain’s Superliga, France’s LFL, Turkey’s TCL, and Northern Europe’s NCL. The latter was once again represented solely by Los Ratones, one of the breakout sensations of this year’s European LoL esports scene.

In the grand final, Los Ratones faced a strong challenger, Barça eSports, the reigning Superliga Spring champions. But just like last time, the series was anything but close: Los Ratones cruised to a dominant 3:0 victory to successfully defend their title. Mid laner Tim "Nemesis" Lipovšek was named Finals MVP for his standout performance.

EMEA Masters Spring 2025 Most Popular Matches & General Viewer Statistics

Just like in the winter edition, Los Ratones matches pulled in the biggest audiences, and much of that success can be credited to the tournament coverage provided by team owner and popular streamer Robert "Caedrel" Lamont.

The grand final topped the charts with a peak of over 277,000 concurrent viewers, while all of Los Ratones’ playoff games surpassed 200,000 peak viewers each.

The viewership gap between Los Ratones and the rest of the field was once again staggering. If you exclude the teams they faced, whose numbers were heavily boosted by LR’s own popularity, the difference in audience size compared to other top contenders was nearly four times as large.

EMEA Masters Winter 2025 vs EMEA Masters Spring 2025 Viewership Comparison

In terms of overall numbers, the event underperformed across all major metrics, even though it ran nearly twice as long as the winter edition. The most likely explanation is the cooled-off hype surrounding Los Ratones. After all, a similar decline was already noticeable during NLC’s second split this season.

The ERL summer season kicks off this month and will continue through August. The summer split and grand finale of EMEA Masters 2025 are scheduled for September.
