IEM Cologne Major 2026: Stickers and tokens

Valve has rolled out the stickers and Viewer Pass for the upcoming IEM Cologne Major, introducing massive structural changes to the traditional system. The publisher has completely abandoned the previous capsule-opening model.

Instead, fans will now use "tokens" to directly purchase individual stickers of specific types and rarities. Prices for these individual items will operate on a dynamic demand-based model, meaning a sticker's cost will automatically increase as its sales volume rises.

Additionally, the revenue-sharing model for team stickers has undergone a major overhaul. Out of the 50% revenue pool traditionally allocated to organizations, the tournament organizer will now retain 5%, while the remaining 45% will be distributed among teams based on their position in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS).

Under this new structure, the highest-ranked team will receive a 2.85% share of the revenue, scaling down to the two lowest-ranked teams, which will each receive 0.72%. However, once the IEM Cologne Major concludes, all subsequent sticker revenue will pivot to being distributed based on final team placements at the Major itself, rather than their initial VRS positions.

IEM Cologne Major 2026: Participants

A total of 32 teams, selected based on the April VRS rankings, will compete in the IEM Cologne Major 2026. A team's seeding directly impacts its starting position, with higher-ranked squads entering the tournament at later stages. Consequently, the top-tier teams have secured direct invitations straight into Stage 3.

IEM Cologne Major 2026: Favorites to win

Team Vitality enters the IEM Cologne Major 2026 as the undisputed heavy favorite. The French organization has dominated the professional Counter-Strike scene for the second consecutive year. In the first half of 2026 alone, the squad has already captured five international trophies and surpassed $1 million in prize money earnings.

Another formidable title contender is Natus Vincere. Throughout 2026, the squad has reached four international grand finals, securing two trophies with championship runs at ESL Pro League Season 23 and IEM Atlanta 2026.

Were it not for Team Vitality’s spectacular form, NAVI’s track record could be even more impressive. The French powerhouse has frequently acted as a bracket-gatekeeper for the Ukrainian organization, a losing streak that NAVI finally managed to snap with their victory in Atlanta.

Other notable squads in the conversation include Team Spirit and Team Falcons, who have already made multiple grand final appearances in 2026. Both rosters boast highly skilled individual playmakers and experienced, veteran leadership at the helm.

IEM Cologne Major 2026: Viewership expectations

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 marks the fourth time the prestigious tournament series will head to Cologne, making it the most frequented host city in Counter-Strike Major history. Only Katowice, Poland, comes close to matching Cologne's record, having hosted three Valve-sponsored Majors. Meanwhile, Jönköping and Atlanta have each played host to two Major events.

Recent Counter-Strike Major data indicates that peak viewership typically lands between 1.5 and 2 million concurrent viewers. Over the past three years, only the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 fell short of this benchmark, a dip largely attributed to the tournament's challenging time zone for Western audiences.

For the IEM Cologne Major 2026, a peak audience of around 1.8 million concurrent viewers is well within reach, with the potential to clear the 2 million mark if the playoff matchups fall into place. The tournament's favorable geographic location, combined with ESL’s extensive production track record, creates the perfect environment to hit these milestone metrics.
