Japan outperformed Brazil by viewership among Valorant Challengers 2023 events

Mar 24, 2023 4 分 読み

The Valorant Challengers 2023 Split 1 regional stages ended in Brazil and Asia. The Japanese teams drew the attention of the most fans — the local league outperformed the others by every metric, including total Hours Watched and the number of viewers on broadcasts. Only North America, the matches of which have not yet been finished, can compete with it. Esports Charts sums up the interim results of the tournament series.

Valorant Challengers is a system of national and regional leagues that Riot Games created to support and grow the Valorant tier-2 scene. The best Challengers teams can qualify for Ascension Tournament (advancement tournament) for their region. The winners of these tournaments will qualify to play in the 2024-2025 Valorant Champions Tour regional leagues alongside affiliate teams.

Earlier we summed up the results of the Valorant Challengers 2023 EMEA regional leagues. At that time, the French and Turkish leagues had the most viewers. The final Americas matches will end on March 31, and the South Asia Regional League Pacifiыc results will be announced on April 22.

Results of regional leagues in Japan and Brazil

Crazy Raccoon played in all five of the league's most popular games

The Valorant Challengers 2023: Japan Split 1 attracted the largest audience among these leagues. Its matches accumulated 9.1 million Hours Watched and drew 73.1K Average Viewers. The Grand Final between Crazy Raccoon and FENNEL became the most watched league match attracting more than 160.7K Peak Viewers

FENNEL topped all the teams by the total Hours Watched, but it became possible only thanks to the greater number of matches. As for the Average Viewers number, Crazy Raccoon became the only team to reach the mark of 100K. The other participants didn't reach the mark of 80K.

As for the broadcasts, the matches of Challengers 2023: Japan Split 1 were covered only in Japanese. The broadcasts on Twitch got the most Hours Watched — 67% vs. 33% on YouTube. We should note that in addition to the official channels, the tournament was covered by fps_shaka, jasper7se and other community casters.

Keyd Stars, the league's most popular team, lost against The Union in the finals

As for Brazil, Valorant Challengers 2023 Brazil: Split 1 accumulated 1.5 million Hours Watched, the third highest total of any regional league ended (only Japan and North America have more). The Brazilian league matches saw 12.5K Average Viewers and 34K Peak Viewers

It should be noted that the Challengers 2023 Brazil matches were broadcast only in Portuguese and were covered by some popular casters like coreano, mch_Agg and f0rsakenwow.

Results of other Valorant Challengers 2023 regions

The other Asian leagues (except for Japan) lag far behind in terms of audience reach. The difference in Peak Viewers between them is practically invisible, but the Average Viewers number can differ by a factor of two. This is because there are 2-3 media (or very strong) teams in the regions that attract a lot more viewers than the rest of the participants. When these teams play against each other, the broadcasts show a high Peak Viewers result. The rest of the time, the games do not draw as many viewers, so the Average Viewers number is quite low.

When it comes to the most popular leagues in the division, the Thailand league so far has slightly better numbers than the other competitors.

From the end of March through the end of May, matches will be played in three regional divisions of the VCT: International Leagues — EMEAN, Americas and Pacific. There, teams will play for the Valorant Champions Tour 2023: Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions 2023 quota places.
