Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2022: a strong decline in the audience
Last weekend marked the end of Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2022, Riot Games CCG's second edition of the series. This time the event attracted far fewer viewers. In total, matches of the Legends of Runeterra World Championship generated 198.9K Hours Watched and attracted 8.3K Average Viewers. The tournament reached the mark of 12.2K Peak Viewers during the match between Bajatak and Kickera in the group stage. At the same time, the grand final of Teddy314 versus AragornN took the fifth spot among the top matches of the championship, lagging behind the leader by only 4.6% in terms of Peak Viewers.

The most popular language of the tournament broadcasts was English, accounting for more than 76% of the event’s total Hours Watched. The top 3 by this indicator also included Portuguese and Chinese. LoR Worlds 2022 streams were available only on Twitch and YouTube, while the platform from Amazon generated 75% of the tournament’s total Hours Watched.
Compared to the first Legends of Runeterra World Championship, the Peak and Average Viewers of LoR Worlds 2022 decreased by 72% and 64%, respectively. At the same time, the tournament still entered the top 5 championships of the discipline by each of the indicators.

The most popular LoR event by Peak Viewers is a streaming event Twitch Rivals Spirit Blossom Legends of Runeterra Showdown, which gathered 64.4K Peak Viewers. Meanwhile, Twitch Rivals Legends of Runeterra Showdown leads by Average Viewers with its 42.2K. Note that both tournaments featured popular streamer and were held in the first months after the release of the game.

The audience of LoR Worlds 2022 has decreased several times. The audience statistics of Legends of Runeterra on Twitch dropped a lot after the end of the first World Championship, and unfortunately, the second edition did not improve the situation much. The average monthly audience of the game has been below 2K viewers for more than a year, and the average monthly number of channels has never exceeded 40 since September 2021.
Legends of Runeterra is a free-to-play CCG from Riot Games that was released on April 29, 2020, for PC, Android, and iOS. The game takes place in the League of Legends universe.
