LoL: Wild Rift SEA Pentaboom Showdown: Far away from ML:BB?

LoL: Wild Rift SEA Pentaboom Showdown: Far away from ML:BB?

LoL: Wild Rift SEA Pentaboom Showdown was the first esports event for a new mobile game from Riot Games. The game is currently not yet available for all the global regions, but it already had its first tournament (Twitch Rivals aside). Let's see whether it had any success in Southeast Asia.

The tournament was attended by teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia. The teams included famous bloggers, streamers and fans of other mobile disciplines.

The players competed for a prize pool of $66,500, while the organizers donated another $60,000 to charities in the countries mentioned above.

Such a variety of popular team representatives had a direct influence on the tournament's audience. The most hours watched was contributed by the Malaysian viewers – 29%. Meanwhile, the Indonesians contributed 19% of hours watched, and their team arrived to the second spot in the tournament.

The Vietnamese team Volley became the winners, while the Vietnamese-language audience was only the fifth in terms of hours watched, with a result of 9%.

The tournament was broadcast on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. Overall, it gathered 35 thousand peak viewers and 315 thousand hours watched. Myanmar's official Facebook broadcast has become the most popular one with 16 thousand peak viewers.

Although the organizers provided official streams for each platform, Twitch had only 49 peak viewers – and that's because the viewers of mobile esports have a general preference for YouTube and Facebook.

Of course, the results of Wild Rift are a far cry from, for example, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang – but overall, as for the first tournament without popular teams from mobile esports organizations, the results are pretty good.

The state of the game itself deserves a separate mention. Not much time has passed since the official launch, and as of now, the game is only available in several regions. Soon Wild Rift will be released in other countries, and at that time, it will be finally possible to thoroughly test the game. We may see more tournaments being hosted to draw attention to the new discipline from Riot Games.
