MPL Philippines Season 15 reaches new viewership record for the region

The MPL Philippines Season 15 concluded on June 1 with a thrilling final that went the distance before crowning the champion. In the process, it broke series viewership records to reiterate Mobile Legends: Bang Bang's growing influence in the global esports industry.

The latest season of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) circuit in the Philippines saw eight of the country's best teams come together to battle for a prize pool of $150,000. Held at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City, it also had the small matter of qualification for the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2025 at stake, with the top two representing the league in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

After just over three months of thrilling action, it boiled down to a best-of-seven Grand Final between Team Liquid PH and ONIC.PH. In a series between probably the two most popular sides in the Philippines, it was the former that came out on top 4:3 after twice letting slip the lead to take home just over $46,000 as winnings.

This match also set a new MPL Philippines record of 1.8 million Peak Viewers (PV), beating the previous record holder by 11.45%. It also became just the second edition in the series to cross the 30 million Hours Watched (HW) mark, joining the seventh season in this exclusive club.

As mentioned earlier, a summit clash between two of the nation's top sides was the ideal scenario for the PV record to be broken at the MPL Philippines Season 15. Team Liquid PH has been one of the Philippines' most consistent sides recently, while ONIC.PH is the reigning world champion and is perhaps the most successful side in this regional circuit.

Moreover, with English broadcasts of this MLBB competition more readily available than ever, the language witnessed a series record of 414,138 PV. This was just over a 50% rise from the previous record that was achieved at the MPL Philippines Season 14.

It was also one of the most popular Tagalog broadcasts of this series ever, with only one tournament touching a higher peak for the language (MPL PH Season 7). The seventh season was when Blacklist International, perhaps the most famous Filipino MLBB side ever, won its first title in this regional circuit, a win that would catapult it to superstardom and a world title later that same year.

Lastly, while YouTube continued to be the platform of choice for fans of the game in the region, TikTok continued its surge in the Southeast Asian esports livestreaming segment. It ate into the share of Facebook from the previous season to tally just over 32% of the overall watch time at the MPL Philippines Season 15.

Fans were also witness to a piece of history as Angelo "Pheww" Arcangel became the first player to get 3,000 assists in MPL Philippines history. The two-time world champion, now turning up for Team Falcons PH, further solidified his legacy as one of the greats of MLBB esports.

Having taken three years to reach over one million concurrent viewers at peak during Season 14, the series has now broken this record at back-to-back splits. With Tagalog and English audiences of the game growing and platforms like YouTube and TikTok improving their audience reach, the MPL Philippines is emerging as one of the top regional circuits across esports.

It remains to be seen how fans affect the livestreaming viewership at the year's first MLBB global event, the MSC 2025. No doubt they will be crucial, but it depends a lot on how their representatives, historically successful at international championships, fare in Saudi Arabia.
