PGL Astana 2026 peaked at over 1.16 million concurrent viewers, according to Esports Charts, making it the most-popular esports tournament in Kazakhstan's history.
The event also set a new milestone as PGL's most popular non-Major Counter-Strike tournament to date, while ranking as the second most-popular CS event overall in 2026.
PGL Astana 2026: results and winners
The biggest storyline of the group stage was 9z Team’s underdog run. The South American squad caught everyone off guard by sweeping their opening three matches, becoming one of the first to lock in a playoff spot. Conversely, prominent teams The MongolZ and PARIVISION failed to make it out of groups, despite both sitting in the top 10 of the global HLTV rankings.
The single-elimination playoff bracket featured the tournament's top eight teams. Team Falcons secured the first grand final spot, taking down FURIA and magic along the way. Their series against the Brazilians was an absolute thriller, packed with overtime rounds and highlight-reel plays on pivotal maps. It was undeniably one of the most electric matchups of the entire event, well worthy of a grand final.

Team Spirit secured the second spot in the grand final after taking down G2 Esports and MOUZ in the playoffs. In the championship match, Team Spirit completely swept Team Falcons 3:0 to claim their first trophy of 2026. The series also featured a highly anticipated head-to-head between Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and Ilya “m0nesy” Osipov, with Spirit's young star ultimately coming out on top and earning an MVP medal from HLTV.
PGL Astana 2026 also marked Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s official debut as the in-game leader (IGL) for Team Falcons. While the veteran successfully guided his new squad to the grand final, he struggled heavily on an individual level, posting his lowest numbers in two years with a 0.73 rating.

As the data shows, the viewership metrics for PGL Astana 2026 saw a massive year-over-year increase. A primary driver behind this growth was a 31% surge in unique broadcasting channels, which significantly boosted numbers across major language streams. For instance, the Russian-language broadcast hit a Peak Viewership (PV) of 548.2K concurrents — ranking as the second-highest peak for Russian streams in Counter-Strike history, eclipsed only by PGL Major Stockholm 2021.
PGL Astana 2026: most popular matches

The grand final between Team Spirit and Team Falcons emerged as the tournament's most-popular match. Thanks to it, PGL Astana 2026 is the second most-popular Counter-Strike event of 2026 so far, trailing only the viewership numbers set by IEM Kraków 2026.

Brazilian fans also showed incredible engagement, driving two of FURIA's matchups into the tournament's top three most-watched games. Notably, one of these was a group stage clash against Team Spirit. Fueled by casting from Alexandre “Gaules” Borba, Portuguese-language streams provided a massive boost to the event's overall viewership.
Unfortunately, this momentum sharply declined following FURIA's first-round playoff exit, as most Brazilian fans tuned out. Peak viewership for Portuguese broadcasts plummeted from 215K to just 14K concurrents, seeing only a minor recovery to 40K during the grand final.

PGL Astana 2026 cemented itself as the tournament organizer's most-popular non-Major event in Counter-Strike history. Across all PGL-hosted tournaments, higher viewership metrics have only been recorded during their iconic Majors in Stockholm, Antwerp, and Copenhagen.
The Counter-Strike action continues with the upcoming CS Asia Championships 2026, scheduled to run from May 20 to 24 in Shanghai. You can track live match results and real-time viewership analytics directly on the Esports Charts tournament coverage page.
