OG and Secret set new viewership record of TI10 during first day of main event
The decisive matches have begun at The International 10. This year Gabe Newell did not come to the stage to greet the teams and spectators, but Dota 2 fans still heard the classic ‘Welcome to The International’ line. And on the first day of the playoffs, a new viewership record of the tournament was set: as we expected, this happened in the Team Secret vs. OG match. Esports Charts summed up the results of the main event’s day one.

The main event began with the presentation of the teams and a spectacular (as it can be in the current conditions) opening ceremony, in which TI-winners of different years took part. As a conclusion, Ceb hoisted the main prize of The International on a pedestal, and the first playoff match began with the empty stands of the Arena Națională in Bucharest.

In the starting game of the main event, Team Spirit met with Invictus Gaming. The Chinese team came back after the defeat on the first map and knocked out the CIS team into the lower bracket. The match at its peak gathered over 1.1M spectators, which is 28% more than the peak audience of the opening match of the TI9 playoffs, when PSG.LGD faced Virtus.pro. However, it must be remembered that the last event in the series started way too early in the morning by European time, since the championship was held in China.
The main match of the day was between the reigning world champions OG and Team Secret. However, there was no serious fight: Secret confidently won on two maps in a row and advanced to the next round of winners bracket, and OG have to pave their way through the lower bracket now. The match at its peak attracted 1.39M viewers: and this is a new TI10 record and the highest results of the first day of the playoffs in the history of the championship!

In addition to two matches in the winners bracket, there were also four bo1 matches in the lower bracket on October 12. The day was closed by the match where two superstar teams met — Elephant vs. Evil Geniuses: however, the game didn't live up to the hype around it as it only attracted 840.5K viewers, which is the lowest result of the day.
At the end of 1st day of main event, Team Undying, Team Aster, beastcoast and Elephant left TI10 at 13th-16th places. It is noteworthy that of the four lower bracket games, only the Fnatic vs. Undying match attracted over a million Peak Viewers.
Four matches will be played at The International 2021 on October 13: two each in the Upper and Lower Brackets. First, PSG.LGD will compete with T1 and Virtus.pro will face Vici Gaming for the spots in the semifinals; after that Team Spirit will compete with Fnatic, and OG will have to fight Quincy Crew for the right to stay at the tournament.
