Millions of people around the world watched Worlds 2022, and teams that participated in the tournament received tremendous fan support both at the venues and in the Twitch broadcast chats. In a new Esports Charts article, we'll tell you which players and teams topped the ranking by chat mentions, and why Prime Gaming and MasterCard were the most mentioned among the tournament sponsors.

T1 became the most popular Worlds 2022 team by the number of mentions in chats, as expected. The name of the Korean team, the most popular one in the discipline, appeared in chats about 118.1K times. This hype can be attributed to the huge fan base of T1, as well as the fact that the team played in the championship Grand Final. DRX, another Korean team that won Worlds 2022, comes in second place. It was mentioned 33.5% less than T1 in the tournament broadcasts chats.

Royal Never Give Up rounds the Top 3 with 44.9K mentions. The team, which is one of the strongest in the LPL, became the champion of Mid-Season Invitational 2022 and had great support in Worlds 2022 chats, but made it to the quarterfinals only. JD Gaming, a Chinese team, which reached the semifinals of the championship, takes only ninth place in the ranking by the number of mentions in chats (26.4K times).

It is interesting that the other teams from the Top 10 by the number of mentions in chats did not even make it to the Worlds 2022 Playoffs. However, Gen.G EsportsRogueDAMWON Gaming and EDward Gaming that reached this stage of the championship ranks below the Top 10 most mentioned teams.

G2 Esports and Evil Geniuses, which were eliminated in the Group Stage, were mentioned 39.5K and 38K times in chats, respectively, thus rounding out the Top 5. Next in the Top is MAD Lions that dropped out of the tournament in the second round of the Play-In, but was mentioned 37.6K timesFnatic and Cloud9, with 36.2K and 27.2K mentions, respectively, take 7th-8th places in the ranking. These teams showed the lowest results in the Group A. A Japanese team DetonatioN FocusMe rounds out the Top 10 — it was mentioned 24.9K times, despite being knocked out of the tournament in the second round of the Play-In.

A legendary LoL player Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok became the most mentioned Worlds 2022 e-athlete. His nickname appeared in chats 131.3K times, which is several times more than any other player's nickname did. Faker began his career in the spring of 2013 as a member of T1, and over the years he has managed to become the most successful player in the history of LoL. He also became a co-owner of T1 Entertainment & Sports in 2020.

Chovy, who is considered one of the best mid lane players in LoL at the moment, ranks second by the number of mentions. The nickname of the Gen.G player appeared in chats 37.5K times. It is interesting that viewers mentioned Chovy in chats more often than the name of his team that reached the Worlds 2022 Semifinals. We should also note that there are no other representatives of Gen.G. in the Top 10 most-mentioned players.

Despite the fact that Faker was also mentioned more often than his team name, the Top 10 mentioned players also includes Zeus, a T1 top lane player. He takes 3rd place in the ranking. Keria, a T1 support player, takes 6th place. Their nicknames appeared in chats 29.3K and 18.2K times, respectively. Deft and Zeka are placed between them — these two DRX players were mentioned 27K and 23.6K times, respectively.

The Top 10 most mentioned Worlds 2022 players includes also Canyon from DAMWON Gaming, GALA from RNG, Yutapon from DetonatioN FocusMe and Armut from MAD Lions. We should remind you that the latter two dropped out of the tournament in the second round of the Play-In.

Amazon Prime Gaming became the most mentioned sponsor of Worlds 2022, appearing 35.4K times in chats. LoL prize giveaways, where viewers had to text "!prime" into the chat room to participate, were the reason for the public's excitement. Viewers could get Riot Points, collectible League of Legends figures, plush toys, limited edition clothing and art items each day during all stages of the tournament. At the end of the tournament, one person won a large set of gifts that included all of the prizes listed above.

Creating a meme that will promote the brand in the broadcast chat is the best way to do any integrated advertising: that is exactly what the global payment system MasterCard, which has been a sponsor of Worlds for several years now, succeeded in. It has already become an integral part of the tournament, making the phrase "TY MASTERCARD" a popular meme. In the Worlds 2022 chat, the company was mentioned 32.8K times, more than 86% of which were in the "TY MASTERCARD" format.

A reference to the MasterCard logo during the Worlds 2022 opening ceremony sparked the "TY MASTERCARD" spam in the chats of the tournament broadcasts

Viewers wrote this phrase every time a player received the first mythic item and the broadcast played the sound of a Mastercard transaction. In addition, a reference to the logo briefly appeared on stage during the opening ceremony, which also prompted a flurry of "TY MASTERCARD" spam in chats.

The other Worlds 2022 sponsors were mentioned much less frequently. The energy drink Red Bull appeared in chats 2.2K times, ranking third in the Top. The brand was presented as a branded refrigerator behind the analysts' backs, and it also appeared on the broadcast as banners, after which people wrote "TY REDBULL" in chats.

Cisco, a U.S. multinational company that designs and sells networking equipment, comes in fourth place. Worlds 2022 viewers mentioned it 1.6K times. A commercial of the company was periodically shown during the broadcast, followed by "TY CISCO" and "San FranCISCO" spamming in chats, referring to the city where the tournament final was held.

The Top 5 is rounded out by Mercedes-Benz, which was mentioned a little over a thousand times. The commercials of the company were shown during the broadcasts of the tournament, after which the chat room was spammed with "TY MARCEDES". It should be noted that the Summoner's Cup was carried around the Worlds 2022 venues by an EQS SUV, a luxury electric off-road vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.

Such brands as Tiffany, State Farm, Spotify, Verizon, Amazon Web Services, OnePlus and SecretLab were mentioned less than a thousand times in the Worlds 2022 broadcasts chats.

Earlier, we summed up the final day of Worlds 2022, which renewed the League of Legends record for Peak Viewers. The tournament set several other records, but its viewership statistics were not as impressive as those of previous events in the series.
