Results of the ALGS 2022 Split 1: North America sets a new esports record for Apex Legends
Apex Legends Global Series is a professional series of esports competitions in the discipline. January marked the end of the first split of ALGS 2022, which stood out by setting new records in three regions at once. In the new article, Esports Charts will talk about the changes in the ALGS 2022 format, viewership figures in different regions, and overall esports record achieved by Apex Legends.
What has changed in the new season of the Apex Legends Global Series?
In the new season, the developers have made several changes to the tournament system and format. First of all, ALGS has expanded to 15 new countries, including Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, and Georgia. Also, now the competitions have become cross-platform, i.e. PlayStation or Xbox players can participate in the tournament along with PC users. In addition to professional competitions, the organizers also announced the Challenger Circuit for amateurs.
The total prize pool of all ALGS events in 2022 amounted to $5M, which is double the ALGS 2021 prize pool of $2.48M. The organizers announced that the playoffs of second splits along with the final ALGS Championship will be held offline, if the epidemiological situation will allow it.
ALGS 2022 Schedule

The second stage of the professional league, along with the amateur cycle, will begin in February 2022 and end in March, and the playoffs are expected to start in May 2022. The final qualifiers for the World Championship are also expected in May 2022, and the Apex Legends Global Championship 2022 itself will begin in July 2022.
Playoff results of the ALGS 2022 First Split

Apex Legends Global Series 2022 Split 1 Playoffs have ended in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. We still have a second season ahead of us, but the leagues have managed to set new records at the very beginning of the season.
Of all the regions, South America gathered the least number of spectators: 5.8K Peak Viewers. However, the result is still 21% higher than during the ALGS Winter Circuit Playoffs South America.
Both parts of the Asia-Pacific region have set new ALGS Peak Viewership records in the regions. The southern part of the Asia-Pacific region gathered 53K Peak Viewers, while the northern part gathered a whopping 160K Peak Viewers. Even the ALGS Championship 2021 for the ATP was outperformed by viewers, although Split 1 this is a way smaller event compared to last year's championship final.
The first split of 2022 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa was only 4K viewers short of setting a new Peak Viewers record in the region. At the moment, the most popular tournament in the region is still the ALGS Championship 2021 EMEA with 135K Peak Viewers.
The participants in EMEA included such eminent organizations as Natus Vincere, Alliance, Invictus Gaming, and Guild Esports (the team that got investments from David Beckham). The best team of the split was NEW Esports, and it's the first major victory for the squad.
ALGS: 2022 Split 1 Playoffs North America has become the most-watched Apex Legends esports event of all time with 320K Peak Viewers! It was outmatched only by the streamer event Twitch Rivals APEX Legends Challenge 2019 which attracted 569K Peak Viewers. However, back then, participants of the tournament were not the pro players but top content creators, thus it cannot be compared with an official esports circuit.
The split featured many prominent organizations, such as G2 Esports, Cloud9, Team Liquid, and FURIA Esports, who are known for their achievements in other disciplines. The first spot in the region was taken by the TSM which got a 31-point lead over other teams: their member ImperialHal not only became the MVP of the tournament, but also the most popular streamer of the event. The second and third spots were occupied by NRG Esports and Esports Arena, respectively. Note that 100 Thieves, represented by ex-Kungarna roster, took the very last spot, even though this team was the winner of ALGS 2021 North America back in June 2021.

Most popular Apex Legends events of all time (by Peak Viewers)
TSM_ImperialHal became the most popular North American streamer with 108K Peak Viewers. He overtook the official PlayApex channel by 67K Peak Viewers. The top also includes daltoosh and iitztimmy. In addition to English-speaking streamers, the competition was also watched by Japanese and Hispanic fans of Apex Legends, who were brought in by the discipline’s popular content creators, such as the Japanese kato_junichi0817.
Based on the results of the first split, we can conclude that the audience of Apex Legends is actively growing. The new format attracted even more fans thanks to cross-platform competitions and more countries being featured. Next comes the regular season of the second stage of ALGS 2022, which will be held from February to March.
